Hubby has a load of air miles and wants us to go somewhere without kids for our 10th anniversary in June..Can anyone recommend a city. I can pretty much choose any where in Europe although Venice is not available. Also a hotel if anyone knows one too..Thank you

Rome is fab and shouldn't be too hot in June.

Barcelona every time! Mr&Mrs Smith great for Grown Up weekends....

Portofino · 09/02/2010 12:54

Actually Seville and Prague are pretty fab too.

We went to Rome for our 10th Wedding Anniversary - lots to do and easily walkable.

But I would also recommend Vienna too.

thanks ladies..more confused now. I do want it to be easily walkable. We did the same in Paris years ago and both got blisters we walked so much. What did you do in Rome ..strudel? I do quite fancy it altough Barcelona looks good to...argh!

Oslo.
Oslo is beautiful.
Good museums, good restaurants, and not so big that you get blisters!

Or you can be really adventurous and visit the arctic.

We did the Colleseum and other assorted Roman ruins, Acropolis, Vatican, Sistine Chapel museum, Spanish Steps, interspersed with lots of stopping at cafes for coffee, lunch and dinner.

Vienna is also easily walkable too or you hop on a tram - could suggest lots for you to do there too.

I would like to go Barcelona too so understand your dilema.

Barcelona is a great city, lots to do and see.

Madrid is great perhaps less popular than Barcelona.

Rome, excellent lots to do.

Oslo a fabululous place, VERY expensive however, more so than say Stockholm or other Scandinavian places.

Fes a really interesting place to go or the more popular Marrakech.

Budapest is a great city to visit as well.

Palma is also an interesting place to visit, flights are very cheap and you can visit the city and drive a little around the island too. A good mixture.

Moscow is really interesting too. June a good time to go!

I travelled a lot before the children arrived. Some of these places are great with children too!
Depends how long you want to fly for!

its tricky isn't it? I am sure they are all beautiful cities. I do fancy a bit of adult culture and sitting in cafes etc. Also some sight seeing. Thank you for your advice

Madrid is fab for art - 3 great galleries also great bars and restaurants, Barca great for architecture and apparently for nightlife but we didn't indulge, Rome - well it's Italy so it's got everything at a price. i think i enjoyed Madrid marginally more than Barcelona because of the food. Seville is gorgeous - love it, love it, love it, great buildings, history, food. if you like renaissance art there is always Florence.

bishboschone · 09/02/2010 17:49

wow thanks open book..good to get an opinion from someone who has been to a few cities. Is Rome very expensive to eat and drink etc?

i am not really into art or anything but would like to try something new!

thanks dingle dangle ..lots of info there. Don't mind how long we fly for but we probably will only have 3 nights so the nearer the better I think.

Rome is expensive if you sit in a cafe directly overlooking the Colosseum (don't eat there its shit)

What you do is find the little place down the side roads (much better and half the price)

We stayed in a little hotel just off the Spanish steps (so fairly central)

You can walk to most places (thats part of the fun) but to get to the vatican we took a train (v easy)

And the night life was v good (lots of bars and bootiful people)
