Canaries with a 5 month old - self catering or all inclusive?

That's it really - hoping to book a holiday soon, but trying to weigh up whether self catering would be easier than all inclusive/ full board. Would be interested to hear of any experiences?

Ta.

We went self-Cat. to Majorca with a 5month old... it seemed fine for us, I was happy as I have more relaxed meals NOT in a restaurant/cafeteria type setting. And we got to buy and try genuinely Spanish food to cook.

But if I went today I'd definitely go for meals included, tbh!

We did b&b in an aprtment when ds was 11 months in Lanzarote, All Inc in Tenerife when he was 23months and are doing b&b in a posh hotel this year in Tenerife.

It doesnt really matter much to your dd as she wont be eating much?

Are you b/f or ff?

The only thing I would do is make sure that you have a 1 bed apartment or a suite, so that you can put dd to bed and still sit in living room/on balcony and have a few drinks... A one room type affair will mean you sitting in dark/silence from 7pm

Can reccomend a few places in Tenerife or Lanzarote if you are interested.

Thank you for the replies.

We're getting DD into a routine, so were torn between going SC so we could continue this or thinking that we'll be so disrupted anyway that we may as well go all-inc. But, last time I was SC, the basics were so expensive in the resort supermarkets that it cost a fortune...

We're mainly bf, but ff top-ups on the evening and dream feeds. Was thinking that the disposable bottles would probably be the easiest thing, and not too expensive as it's not for every feed.

Geordieminx - any recommendations gratefully received. Presumably you flew from newcastle? That's our local, too as we're in North Shields. BTW, did you post on a name thread about Blyth(e) a few months ago?

You can buy cartons of formula, but if you have loads of luggage powder is just as easy.

I would go all inc, at 5 months hopefully youd dd will be pretty chilled, and you can have the sort of holiday that you want - it'll probably be the last

Lanzarote - Rubimar aparthotel - b&b, but with apartment so kitchen/sep bedroom, quite basic, but right on a beautiful marina with some amazing restuarants and bars, all very child friendly, walking distance to Playa Blanca.

Princes Yaiza - all inc luxury. In Playa Blanca but walking distance to marina etc.

Tenerife - Los Gigantes Spa and Suite - went here last year, half an hours drive away from Las Americas, small town, amazing hotel, spa, all inclusive, lovely food, all suites so seperate bedroom and living area,

Mare Nostrum resort - going here this year, looks fab, 5* in Los Cristianos, can go half or full board, lots of nice restaurants and things to do near by, 5 pools etc.

Unfortunately not flying from Newcastle as live in Glasgow, but I did post on Blyth thread a while ago.

Thank you for the recommendations! I wanted to head to Playa Blanca - spent half an hour or so there a few years ago when staying in Costa Teguise and thought it looked lovely.

We normally only give a couple of ounces of formula a day, so the cartons should be ok.

Will start looking this evening.

I must travel more. I only read the first bit of the title and thought this was going to be about canaries as pets for a 5 month old..
I shall just go away now......

posieparker · 08/02/2010 18:58

I wouldn't keep any birds with a small baby.

fruitshootsandheaves · 08/02/2010 18:59

oh good I'm not the only one!

posieparker · 08/02/2010 18:59

Oh fruitshoots.....

posieparker · 08/02/2010 18:59

and again!

'twould be a truly bad idea... we have a cat. Actually, she might think that having little birdies made up for us having DD in the first place
