We quite liked the Le Meridien Limassol - seems to fit all your criteria!

The Anassa. Fabulous hotel.

flossie64 · 27/01/2010 21:50

My friend has just booked to go back to Aphrodite Hills , for the 4th time .She says its the best hotel she has ever been to.
As far as I know they wait on you hand and foot at all times.
enjoy if you choose there.

Ooh sorry dcs' are older so can't really comment on the family friendly part. Although I do remember seeing child-minding/activities, etc. here you go Never used them though so can't really comment.

For the adults, luxurious surroundings, beautiful spa - (great facials btw), fabulous meals, friendly attentive staff who discreetly appear like magic to hand out ice-cold towels and jugs of water just as you are starting to think you might be a bit hot. Or take your order for snacks/drinks while you are lazing on your sun-lounger as heaven forbid you might think about moving. Also an abundance of sun-loungers/parasols spread out around the grounds/pool/private beach so you are not too close to others if you choose not to be. The cliff-top setting overlooking the med is just gorgeous as well.

Have also stayed at the Amathus Beach and the Annabelle. Both good but not quite in the Anassa league although the Annabelle is a sister hotel. The Amathus Beach is probably the most child friendly from what I can recall.

Le Meridien - lovely play park for children along with what seemed to be a very well run children's club. Lots of swings and slides as well as a paddling pool in the summer.(We were far too cotton-woolish to leave our 3yr old there on his own so we were always there with him which meant we could see the childcare staff in action and they were all absolutely lovely.)

2 outdoor pools + an indoor pool. FABULOUS spa including a great thalasso centre. Lovely, lovely common areas in the lobby with lovely sofas and beautifully lit with tea lights at night. 3 restaurants (from memory) with really really lovely food. Underground parking for your hire car which meant it was never overheated when you got in it!

The staff were absolutely fantastic and very, very family friendly (making a big fuss of our 3 year old, remembering his name etc).

If I'm honest I wasn't super keen on Cyprus itself but the hotel was fabulous. HTH.

we stayed at the Aphrodite Hills, it's very nice but - there was a wedding every day of our stay, which a) meant we started getting very bitchy about the wedding dresses when they all go on the golf course for the sunset photos, and we were usually having a drink on the balcony at that point watching them - and b) meant that at least one part of the hotel was not available to normal guests every night (for the receptions). See if you can check before hand, 1 or 2 nights is fine, but it got a bit annoying after a while.

Also, it's expensive - not just the main hotel, the 'village' is also v v expensive and it's a bit isolated so you can't really go elsewhere without a bit of planning. No idea how nice the spa is as once I realised it would be cheaper to have a facial at a celeb filled day spa in Belgravia, decided to give it a miss...

however, we had a great time!

holsareacoming · 28/01/2010 18:15

Fake - really tempted by this hotel as Soverign have a massive deal if I book before Sunday (Can save £1k and tey will upgrade to HB so we would jsut have to paid for evenign meals/drinks). not too bothered about being isloated as we just want to chill

wheelsonthebus · 29/01/2010 15:55

annabelle is lovely

FakePlasticTrees · 29/01/2010 16:01

if you can get a good deal then I'd go - it's lovely, just be prepared to spend a lot when there (a good deal would then balance it out) - have a great time!

cathers · 29/01/2010 19:11

How about the Elysium? Reckon its the best hotel I've ever stayed in Cyprus. Elegant, relaxing and fab spa.

We have stayed at Aphrodite Hills, and agree with Fake that parts get closed off for the frequent weddings. Also a trek to the beach. Very resort based.
Was lovely but not worth the money IMO.

St George was much more relaxed (and cheaper!) though out in the sticks slightly. Not as posh as aphrodite hills.

holsareacoming · 30/01/2010 07:56

cather - good and bad points about Elsium please? Ive not genned up on this one!

The Alymra is the best hotel for kids I have ever stayed in (& we travel a lot). It's a nice hotel with twi lovely restaurants - one on a platform above the beach where they serve candlelit meals with space between all the tables for prams. The second is part of the hotel overlooking the sea. It's almost Ibiza style with lots of white linen curtains floating in the breeze and a Pan Asian menu (& brilliant sushi and sashimi)

The pool is constantly covered so kids can swim all day in the shade and they move shades around all day so kids are never in the sun. There is a baby pool too and people appear with high chairs everywhere you go. No on bats an eye at crying babies, food on floor etc.

Only downside is that the local town isn't great (imo) but it's fine for an early evening stroll but I wouldn't recommend eating there.

We've just booked our 3rd trip and never go to the same place twice so must be good!

mcfee · 05/02/2010 15:48

Atlantica Oasis in Limassol is lovely!

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 05/02/2010 16:07

Second Le Meridien.
Not too posh, great kids club facilities, fab staff.
Children have their own buffet, we barely saw dd for 2 weeks it was heaven we really missed her

SparkleandShine · 06/02/2010 09:35

look on tripadvisor - it is VERY accurate

Here are the hotel rankings in Paphos - the ST george is 6th/33 in the speciality lodging section

amathus beach os 15th /109 in hotels
alymyra is 14th/109
aphrodite 23rd /109

I think you can do better - I would go for one in the top 5 - pay particular attention to the poor reviews

www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g190384-Paphos-Hotels.html

SparkleandShine · 06/02/2010 09:42

I just checked the reviws on the Almyra and it has good ish overall but 2 "terrible" and 15 "poor" so you definitely need to go to one of the top 5!!

We often use tripadvisor and once stayed in a hotel that was 10th in the rankings and it wasn't great (we couldn't get into th top 9 as all booked!) and had similar reviews.

busymummy3 · 10/02/2010 22:13

Napa Palace (previously Napia Star ) in Ayia Napa please dont be put off by Ayia Napa it is a lovely place fantastic hotels with staff who are friendly and do everything they can to make you welcome. Plus side of Ayia Napa/ Protaras are the beautiful beaches golden sand blue sea not like paphos mainly shingle and limassol which i felt was too industrial. we satyed at Napia Star for 8 fantastic holidays it has now been renovated and only takes bookings for adults no families boo hoo! last year we went to Nestor hotel very family friendly. other good hotels are the grecian bay, grecian sands nissi beach adams beach aeneas

Naima23 · 11/02/2010 13:44
