Dubrovnik with buggy

Hello all,
We have booked flights to Dubrovnik for a week in June. We will have our year old DS with us in his buggy. Any suggestions of where to stay? I hear the old town is difficult with a buggy. Our budget will be around £1000 for the week (which I thought was reasonable but seems to rule out quite a few places!)
Thanks

The old town will be fine with a buggy, unless you want to walk the walls of the city.

There are no hotels in the old town though.

We had a long weekend there in May, and loved it. But it was very hot!

we stayed here

Don't know how much it will cost, although it is a top end hotel - but a beautiful setting right on the sea.

hi were in dubrovnik last year with our dd's and sorry to disagree with last post but there are a lot of steep steps getting into the old town. we were staying outside dubrovnik and took the bus in at night without our kids as we were with friends who babysat and were very glad we didn't have our toddler! it's worth thinking about the fact that the aiport is actually outside dubrovnik and there are other smaller places to stay along the coast with regular buses into dubrovnik. we had a great time and have booked again for this year the sea is beautiful! you can get a boat into dubrovnik from places like cavtat and that avoids the steps! hth

I have been there many times- yes the old town is difficult but then it is like taking your child to Tower of London and finding that it is not ideal with a buggy- it is a medieval fortress, and of course you have to tave that into consideration. But apart from that, the city, the mentality, the beaches, the general atmosphere is child friendly.
Beware of the heat- Brits don't cope with it so well

Have you got, or could you borrow, a big three-wheeler for your son? that might make for more comfortable pushing around the old town, although you are going to ahve some hoiking to do up and down steps. But it is worth it - dubrovnik is lovely.

There are hotels very near to the old town, and overlooking the town beach, which might be handy given your little one. I would avoid the Gruz area of the city: IIRC, this is the main ferry port and isn't as pleasant as the old town or, say, Lapad peninsula (where lots of hotels are located).
Have a fab time!

PS had a bad experience on the boat into Dubrovnik from cavtat once. It nearly sunk, with us on it. But maybe we just picked a small boat!

Hello
Just got back from our trip so thought I would report back for others who may fancy Dubrovnik in the future.
Firstly, it was a fantastic and beautiful place with a bit of everything; lovely weather, lovely old town, good food, places to visit on day trips and nice beaches and sea to swim in.
I wouldn't say it was ideal for travel with a baby/toddler; in June it was a bit too hot for us, well into the 30's and we had to stay indoors for alot of the day to avoid the heat. However the old town is hideously busy in the middle of the day anyway (standing room only) so a good time for a family siesta.
There are places to go with a buggy but you are of course limited. The old town can be partially done (there are no steps to actually access the old town); to access prijeko north of the stradun, take either of the side streets nearest to one of the two gates, which has the fewest steps. You can just about access the buza bars outside the walls if there are 2 of you and can cope with lifting the buggy a few times; take the archway to the right of the amoret restaurant and then first left through another archway as there are fewest steps this way (however quite a few down to the actual bar). Also left at the amoret restaurant leads down an interesting side street. I can't see any way of doing the walls, we did these separately.
Lokrum was fun, you can't do all the paths but alot of them are possible if you have a sturdy buggy and the ferry is very easy to access.
Cavtat was great, some lovely flat easy wheeling walks with shade. The boats are a bit smaller though and you might need help to lift the buggy on.
I would recommend the walk/bus to Lapad for a change of scene, there is a nice pedestrianised street with lots of cafes and a play area (we never managed to find a baby suitable swing though).
There were more highchairs around than we expected, although you often have to ask; we found them at Lokanda Peskarija (highly recommended, and not too expensive; DS enjoyed the cuttlefish risotto), Wanda on Prijeko (a bit pricey for what we got, but very friendly service), the restaurant at Bellevue hotel (very expensive but we had breakfast there as we stayed there; probably not ideal for a toddle at dinner time), and the SEdna restaurant at hotel kompas in Lapad (great views and cheapish pizza).
Expect all food and drink, even from supermarket,to be similar if not pricier than UK.
We stayed at the bellevue, about 15 mins walk up hill from the town do-able with a buggy but hard work uphill in the heat. Is very expensive (but then all dubrovnik accommodation is); cot fits in the bathroom but preferably try and get a balcony, we didn't and regretted it bigtime. Would have loved the hotel pre-children; I think will go selfcatering next time.
Hope that helps!
