Hello, We've never been on a family holiday before and are totally clueless about where we could go for a summer holiday. Looking for fun for kids, sand etc! Any suggestions would be really helpful. DCs 4 and 2 (4yo not yet in school, so can travel in school term if cheaper).

Also, do you book it now or if not, when?

Thanks!

Depends how much cash you have to spend but if you want an active/kids club type holiday have you looked into Neilson Beachclubs? We have a 1 year old and 3.5 year old and have been the last couple of years. We take the creche/kids club option /interconnecting rooms. You can then dip in and out of childcare as much or as little as you want. Watersports on offer (included in the price). Food is good and included.....We've really enjoyed them and are going back again this year.....you at least feel like you get a rest from everything - our 3.5 year old loves having mates he sees around the resorts and fun stuff to do and it's nice to get involved in doing something with DH and spending bits of time here and there just the two of us......

Puerto Pollensa, Majorca. Loved it. Perfect beach for young children with shallow warm water. Not too busy in June/early July. Lovely restaurants.

Check out puertopollensa.com for more info. We booked an apt through that website and flights with easyjet.

We went to Puerto Pollensa in October half term and it was beautiful.

We booked our apartment through Villa Parade, and flew with Ryan Air.

Why don't you try the UK if it's your first family holiday, and then you can be more adventurous next time if all goes well. We've just booked a week here at Easter, with our 4 yo and 1 yo (and me 6 months pregnant by then).

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 21/01/2010 10:19

no don't do uk! it is your last year of being able to get away during term time. go in september and make the most of the cheapness

We went to Keycamp in Garden Paradiso near Venice when ds was small. It was lovely, private beach, nice restaurants on site, walking distance of local village and loads of places to travel to. We stayed in a mobile home which was great as you don't really want to be eating out all the time when you have young children.

here is fantastic - really perfect. been there the last 2 years and although we're going to France this year we'll go back to Portofelice next year!! It's within walking distance 5-10 mins of the local town with lovely restayuarnts and the beach is onsite - just over a bridge and short walk through a pinewood. About 5 mins from campsite (at 5 yo speed!) Campsite is smallish but big enough to have all the facilities you want without being too touristy and naff! Not too british either - mostly Italian and we were even brought fresh mussels caught by a lovely old man who decamps there from venice evey August!

kittya · 26/01/2010 22:18

Italy looks lovely Leslaki but did you have to book your flights separate and did you have to drive to the place?

Nefret · 27/01/2010 10:53

Definitely go abroad this time as you can get some good deals out of season. Have a look at Turkey, that's where we go with our little ones as it is so child friendly.

Kittya I booked flights separately to Venice Marco Polo and got a bus! Bus stops outside campsite - akthough some stop in Eracle mare - 3 min walk to campsite. Bus is really cheap but you can get a taxi for about 80 euros. You definately don't need a car when you're there as the local bus is so good in caorle (lovely town with a water park) or venice. Eraclea mare is a short walk away and has lovely restuarants, bars, weekly market and shops. It's a quiet Italian resort and the pirate restuarant was our favourite! But the campsite has all you need - a fab beach, 4 pools, slides a very cold jacuzzi (lovely when it got really hot) and loads of sport facilities. The restaurant is being rebuilt this winter that will have chnaged. The supermarket on site is fine - we didn't need to go elsewhere. Kids loved the bumper boats and ride on cars in the evening! there is entertainment but you can easily avoid it - it's not shoved in your face.

It sounds amazing!! was it really expensive during the school holidays? I can hardly read the price list!!!

Hi there.

I live and work in Tenerife looking after children - www.tenerifechildcare.com

There is so much in Tenerife for all ages. You have 2 water parks the fantastic Loro parque which have parrot, sealion, killer whale and dolphin shows to name but a few. There are also childrens play areas here, Mickey park is one which is great and another one that is right on the beach that has built in trampolines, ball pools etc. Also, in certain areas there are inflatables in the sea for childrens use but i think it is priced at 10 euros per day but that is for unlimited use.
There are family buggies that you can hire out, mini golf and a number of other things to keep you all entertained. Oh, there is the monkey park too which is so lovely as you can actually feed the little monkeys and they hold your hand etc, very cute.

You can find hotels/apartments here for any budget. I can persionally get an apartment for 150 euros for up to 4 people and that price is just for the apartment, not per person.

If you want some ideas on hotels, please let me know and i will assist you the best i can.

Also, if you would like some childcare during your stay again, give me a shout .... thats if you do decide on Tenerife.

Anyway, happy holiday hunting and have a great trip wherever you decide.

Lisa.
