baby screaming on the plane-anything to help him chill?

I am due to fly with my nearly 5 month old DS this Friday. It is a short haul flight, we are going to visit my parents and I will be flying without my DP. I have done it once before and it was a bit of a nightmare. DS screamed and screamed from the minute we got on the plane for about 1.5 hours until he got completely exhausted and fell asleep. he wouldn't feed and he was kicking, screaming, tears running down his face - awful. It was exactly the same on the flight back.
I was wondering if there was maybe a natural remedy suitable for babies this young which would help him chill or sleep?

sounds like his ears were affected perhap? I used to give a bottle of milk on take off and that worked and give some Medised or Calpol. What about a trip to the dr's to see if they can perscribe something to calm him?

I used to use homoeopathic teething powders.

Nearlychrimbo, I thought that if it was his ears, he wouldn't start crying until the take off? He screamed as soon as got on the plane. I think it was the noise, lights, having to lie in my arms (he prefers being upright), etc. Can you give medised to babies?

Don't think so to medised -
Are you breastfeeding? I found plugging in helped.
Otherwise just take 2-3 big bottles and top him uo?
good luck

unfortunately not breastfeeding anymore. And he was so upset he wouldn't take his bottle

Sorry should of explained better....I gave a bottle straight away to distract away from the take off, ears popping etc... the swallowing motion prevents this - also laying into me and feeding was a nice form of comfort etc... With regards to medised it was 4 years ago when it was ok and not on the "hit list"!!. A spoon of calpol perhaps to relax may be ok - why not give your HV a call and see what they suggest???

If weaned again why not offer something to suck on?
