Hello I am off to Cape Town SA for 10 days in January with DS 18months. We will have a car and were wondering if anyone had any recommendations for things to do, places to see.

TIA.

Go to the beaches!!

There is a fabulous one with penguins -- Boulders Beach.

Lots of scenic drives to do while your DS slumbers in the back of your a/c car - Hout Bay is beautiful. We saw whales in the bay when we were there, but I can't remember the whale-watching season.

Go up Table Mountain in a Cable Car.

We also hiked to the Cape of Good Hope (with ds2 in a backpack carrier) he was a bit younger then, 11 months.

We had the best family holiday we've ever had in Cape Town.

One tip I have though is take one of those foldup travelling high chairs with you if you can, as very few of the restaurants we went to had high chairs.

Feed the sharks..... www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1242926/Cape-Town-shark-attack-Tourist-killed-dinosaur-si zed-great-white-South-African-beach.html

Why is it when I google a story that I heard on the radio it is always the sodding DM that appears?

We had a lovely time in Cape Town with dd - she was 21 months.
The Aquarium in Cape Town was lovely (if you think you'll go more than once then worth investigating an annual pass).
Penguins at Boulders Beach - there's Boulders beach itself too, and also Seaforth Beach (nr entrance to penguins - we stayed just up the road) was sweet, with a bar/restaurant there too.
We enjoyed Cape Point, and also the winelands.
This site might be worth a look www.aboutcapetown.com/

Forgot - we took dd to robben Island - she was very good, but dh did end up changing a v smelly nappy in the prisoners' dining room!

Crumpet thanks for your advice, I am lucky and my mum (who has been to Robbens Island) has volunteered to babysit for the day so I can do Robbens Island and Table Mountain child-less - whoo-hooo!

We're thinking of going to Cape Town during the summer holidays this year with our 4year old and 7 year old. I really want to do some sort of safari with them, (as well as all the things mentioned above) can anybody recommend anything?

CastleDouglas · 04/02/2010 22:32

Wanttostartafresh, for a safari, it would be better to fly up to Jo'burg and go to the Kruger Nat'l Park. Hluhluwe Nat'l Park in KZN is pretty good too, if you wanted to fly to Durban.
