Mozzie repellent for toddlers?

Can anyone recommend an insect repellent for toddlers? We are off to the caribbean for two weeks and my 22 month-old hated sleeping with a mosquito net over his travel cot last time.

Hi - Boots do a kid-friendly one, you will probably be able to get it at the airport. Or you can buy stuff locally, which we use (on our 4 and 2-year-olds). Also, I really like Mosi-guard but this is harder to find. I can't remember where we bought it in the end but not Boots. It says it is child-friendly on the front and it is "natural". Where in the Caribbean are you going?

We're going to St Vincent and the Grenadines to see my mum. I don't want to use anything with DEET in it in case my son get any of it in his mouth. That stuff rots plastic

I used bands like these on DS1 when he was about 18months - they were fab. I've seen them in Tesco so quite easy to get hold of.

See if you can get hold of 'Mustela'. It's french but extremely effective and all natural. We lived in a dengue area out east and I used this stuff all the time. It is a bit greasy but worth it.

linky

I looked on the site and could not find it, but if you contact the company they will be able to tell you how to obtain it/whether it's still manufactured

We tend to be cover-up types, but if insect repellent is needed, we use a kids' version of 'Off' (a major US brand, with Neet).

We found that there were no mosquitoes right on the shore in the Caribbean (within 100ft).

with *DEET

Not sure what it will be like in St Vincent but we are next door in St Lucia and there are lots of mozzies around at the moment - and they are the biting kind, probably because of all the rain we had in December (although the weather has been lovely for the past few days). So definitely get something. If you can't find what you need in the UK go to a supermarket when you arrive, you will probably get the same local stuff there as we get here.

Get some citrollena oil and put some drops on a muslin cloth near them.
