Bugaboo/Air France/Heathrow

Hi,

Travelling longhaul from Heathrow on Tues with Air France. Does anyone know if they'll let me take my Bugaboo Bee to the gate as opposed to checking it in with the other luggage? Have bought a travel bag, but Air France website mention compact umbrella strollers in the cabin only... Folded up in the travel bag it does look rather bulky...

TIA

Hi,not travelled air france but have travelled with loads of other airlines.
In september flew BMI from Heathrow and they let me take my Phil & Teds right up to the gate (where DH then spent about half an hour trying to get it in to the travel bag having 'foolishly' not practiced before) Nearly missed the flight!

A week or so ago flew Emirates from Dubai and they let me take my massive Graco full size pram AND the carseat that goes with it to the gate. They did want one checked but DS was fast asleep and I didn't want him woken.
Chances are they won't let you take it on the plane with you (very few airlines will, even umbrella ones) and they will normally tag it at check in then take it from you at the door of the plane and you'll get it back on the baggage carousel at the other end.

I think pretty much the only one you can actually be (guaranteed?) to take on board is the quinny zap. Bloody hope so as DH has just bought one on ebay yesterday for us to use in a few weeks as we'll have 12 hours in Dubai so really need it.

Good luck

Usually you can take them to the gate and then they stick them in the hold

I would not take a bugaboo on a flight. It will get thrown around.

Is there no way you can take a cheapie stroller. Our suffered some damage, but as a cheapie I didn't care as much as I would if it were my everyday stroller.

I managed to take a quinny zapp on board, but it does depend on the airline. I did have a Bugaboo, but it was checked into the hold and got ruined.

Air france is shit customoer wise; the pushchairs get chucke din the hold and then invariably put on with the suitcases at baggage reclaim.....

I always take cheapo crap pushchair on airfrance.

I thought the baggage handlers were employed by the airport not the airlines

Thanks all, think I'm going to chance it with the Bee... mostly because it is too late to get an El Cheapo! and keep my fingers crossed!

Happy holidays!

hi, am flying heathrow to singapore. have bugaboo cameleon and will use it with the maxi cosi car seat.

will take car seat into plane with us - have purchased a seat for LO. so will check in the bugaboo frame only, all folded up.

anyone done this? the frame only without the seat or bag should be less susceptible to damage?

logrrl · 02/01/2010 13:55

I travelled to Cairo via Amsterdam with my bugaboo cameleon and just took the hit and bought the travel bag as I didn't want it damaged (after following advice on here). The bag is a bit bruised now but did the job of protecting the buggy beautifully. I therefore have to say that I wouldn't risk it without at least some form of padding, iyswim...HTH
