Bugaboo Transport Bag Experiences...

Hi, we are going to the States for a month and I intend to bring our Bugaboo with the Maxi Cosi attachment (we are going to be doing alot of driving and DD is fond of her car seat so figured this is best option). I think I am going to buy the transport bag as I don't want the frame to get bent. We are flying with Virgin.

Virgin website says "Infants are entitled to one piece of hand luggage weighing no more than 6kg. This is over and above the buggy or bassinet or car seat, which are carried free of charge"

Question is this: Would you:

A) Check in car seat & transport bag at ticket desk and just use Bjorn to walk to gate? (Though will have 2/3 hours to kill before hand then...) And will they give me a hard time, saying I have two pieces, but I will argue its really one system...

or

B) Keep car seat on frame and walk to plane door, then disassemble and put in transport bag for them to put in hull? And will they again give me hard time for having two pieces? And will the Maxi Cosi get destroyed/dirty from being chucked in the hull?

Many thanks!!

are you not going to take the normal bugaboo seat too?

MsWilson · 26/11/2009 11:46

DD is only 4mos so doesn't fit in the normal seat (or so I have been told, haven't tried her in it yet...) and figured the carry cot was too bulky to deal with..

does the carry cot not fit in the travel bag then?

MsWilson · 27/11/2009 12:43

sorry I meant, too bulky to deal with once we arrive, but yes its meant to fit into the travel bag too..

Back to your original qu - I would take both the car seat and buggy frame to the door

But I would also take the rest of the buggy - if you are driving a lot you may want the baby out of the car seat when you are walking about etc

I would try her out in the normal seat of the bugaboo (both my dd's were in at 5 months, they can still recline flat or be a bit more upright so can see what's going on. With a sheepskin liner and a cosy toes, v comfy too).

Def get the travel bag - we have done 2 longhauls with ours. I would check the car seat in (just wrap in a clear plastic bag, so they will hopefully take a bit more care of it) and take the whole buggy and the transport bag (which is a bit bulky - ours was the one without the wheels, could fold it up and put luggage strap around it and hang it on the brake)right to the departure gate, then just before boarding put dd into the bjorn and send dh off to some quiet corner to wrestle buggy into bag... you will prob need bjorn for arrival too as your buggy will prob get sent to the baggage reclaim, as being in a bag they don't recognise it's a buggy.

good luck!

Thanks ladies.. you are both probably right about bringing the rest of the attachments. We put together the seat this weekend and it looks like its an ok fit for her, especially reclining like you said brownmia...

Have ordered the bag and foot muff from John Lewis, so should be here in a few days which will give us plenty of time to do a few test runs before the big day..

Will update after the flight to let you know how it went!

Ta!
