Help
We are looking for a fab holiday for our last holiday as a family of four before we become a family of five.
In Feb half term or near enough and something good for us and the kids. We were thinking disneyland paris having been before and knowing dc's will love it, but probably not us.

So - lovely mumsnetters, please help!

Sunshine in the Canaries (that's what I want but DH wants snow)

littlebellsmum · 18/11/2009 23:10

I would love snow but then I'd want to ski and with a reaonable bump by then, it's probably not an option .

Sun sounds good too! I'm trying to think of something that is fine with 5 & 6 year olds but no good with babies/ toddlers, as we will have a few years of that to come!

I think the insurance gets a bit tricky for skiing past 26/28 weeks

Don't go to Disney. It'll still be cold in Paris and there will be a lot of queing- no fast pass for the kinds of rides your children will go on. Go to Lanzarote or similar. It will be warm, probably, relaxing and just right for your family circs.

You're probably right - the thought of a nice hotel when I can watch the kids in the pool, reading a good book sounds like a nice idea. Unfortunatly DH would get bored and that is never a good thing!

Go to Val d'Isère to a hotel with a spa - your DH and DCs can swim and you can lounge in the spa!

Bonsoir · 19/11/2009 20:25

ski not swim...

littlebellsmum · 20/11/2009 23:16

Good plan but sadly Dh is a non skier ( how I marrid one of those I'll never know) and so we will need to think again!

Disneyland Paris will be freezing and you will be on your feet most of the day.

How about Maderia? should be warm and lots of gentle walks if DH is a non skier.

Or Lanzarote / Tenerife should be hot - we went last Feb and it was 20 degrees. Choose a hotel with lots of facilities for DH and kids and chill. Playa Blanca was lovely!

Tunisia or Morocco would be warm and exciting for the kids. though not sure how you would feel about the healthcare back -up.
I'd stick to a good hotel in Lanzarote.

I wouldn't go skiing. If you're not scared of hurting the baby in a skiing accident everyone else will be and you will get nothing but grief from all around you.

We went to Centreparcs in Holland this summer with DCs aged 6 and 4.5, DS2 loved it and is planning to go back next summer. There are some in Germany too; I bet you could have family fun in the snow there. In Germany you can get a chalet for 4 which is a tree house, complete with dishwasher and everything. How cool is that?!

Somewhere with rides and height restrictions where you have to queue is a good idea though. I appreciate in all other circumstances it would be a terrible idea but it will be much harder with a buggy.

Good luck!

Kinderhotels in Austria or Italy? Some look really luxurious, and there is childcare laid on.

PCPlumIsMyHomeboy · 25/11/2009 09:31

We did Lanzarote last Feb, when I was 28 weeks pregnant. Was lovely! Hot, sunny, and easy. Dh and DD did lots of beach action, I either joined them or just hung out by the pool.

I don't think you can beat Benelmadena/Malaga.

There is a theme park there called Tivoli which is great fun, cable cars, zoo, sea life centre and in Malaga there are castles/hostoricalsite, Picasso gallery etc.

Everyone should be happy!

Def go somewhere where the medical facilities are top notch not just for you but the children too, I always have a drama wherever I go and after the baby was taken ill I was thankful I was 15 mins from the main hospital in Tenerife.

I not experienced at going away in half terms so unsure how prices hike up.

I booked all mine independently and saved £1000 (yes, one thousand) against Sovereign. I did mine through beaches.es. For your sanity two rooms are great!

Tenerife is great, lacks sophistication but the top hotels do cater well for children and up the Duque coast childcare is from 4 years old. Siam aqua park is good too.

Thank you all for the suggestions - I'm going to look into all of them - as we still haven't agreed on a holiday, it may be what we can get but still!

Thanks again
