Hi its 3 years since we were last there, hearing that prices have really gone up, any ideas from recent visitors please? We would normally pay around 30-40$ for lunch for 5, then of course we were getting almost 2 dollars to the £.We are going for 3 weeks next May to celebrate husbands recovery from cancer, can`t wait. Any tips?

Hi Sunburnt, that good news too! Horrible living with it isn`t it? Has she been able to get travel ins, we have found it a nightmare, esp travelling to America.

We found them very reasonable this summer - cheaper than at parks in England. We only snacked there though as the cheese / salt etc. got a bit much after a few days (esp in the August heat). We went to Applebees / Dennys etc. and these were really good value.

I'd highly recommend the Sizzler and Ponderosa chain of restaurants. There are quite a few of them around the Disney area.
They do eat all you can buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast one around $4 to $5 each (kids cheaper)and lunch and dinner ones from around $10 which includes steak or chicken and all you can eat salad, other main courses, fruit and dessert.
If you pick up a coupon booklet (at most tourist information or supermarkets) there will be a discount voucher for your first visit and if you take your receipt back the next time you get a further discount.

Food in Disney parks obviously more expensive (but not as expensive as the ridiculous prices I paid at Disneyland Paris in July)

I hope that you both have lovely relaxing holidays, sounds like you need and deserve it xx

Not attempted to get insurance yet but a pal of mine who is a practice nurse has found through her patients a company that do not discriminate at all.
www.itssoeasytravelinsurance.co.uk
I havent looked just yet but her patients recomend it and they should know!
PIL have quite a few health probs on top of mils recent cancer.
FIl get travel insurance through his work as well, but i dont think that that company cover all aspects.

Pondarosa is good but if you dont want to leave the parks to eat, as far as i recall (we went 3 years ago) it wasnt too expensive to eat in the parks. We took some goodies with us from Wallmart for a few days, bags of apples n stuff to snack on.
Its just lots and lots of crap though isnt it, burgers galore, fries etc.
I was desperate for a healthy salad some days.
Any hoo, we are SO excited, MIL counting down the days literally from her calender.

Wow! you do have a lot of things to celebrate. So sorry to hear about all your previous sadness. I suggest you tell them if you book any sit down meal while you are there. They have a way of making things very very special for you

triplets · 18/11/2009 10:49

Do you live in America Minty? Researching which would be the best sit down to go to, my trio will be 12 by then, have you any recommendations?

No I am in the Uk. I would go to disboards and ask for recommendations. There are so many amazing places to go to and it depends on your taste really. Do you want to see characters ? Eat in the castle ? You can eat next to a massive fish tank in Epcot and get mickey in a divers suit to swim past with a congratulations sign if you want. In down town disney you can eat next to giant dinosaurs in t rex or in the rainforest cafe.

If you search disney food photos in google iimages you can see pictures of the amazing tthings you can get try looking up "Beaches and Cream the kitchen sink" I would go there and share one with the kids ! www.youtube.com/watch?v=3V0Ov_sdfzs

You just need to phone and ask. I would book any sit down meals before you go as it can get busy. There are also lots of tips on disboards about eating cheaply whilst you are there.

Are you in the US ?

PictureThis · 18/11/2009 11:50

We got back from Disney yesterday. We ate at The Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom. All you can eat buffet lunch - 3 courses for $23 including drinks, sales tax and a tip. The food was great. As for other stuff we had a meal in the Rainforest Cafe in downtown Disney that came to $300!!!! for 6 adults and a 2 year old. We had 3 starters that we shared and a main course each. The killer were the drinks and don't forget that prices exclude Florida sales tax and gratuities. Have a look on www.thedibb.co.uk where you'll find all kinds of great info and advice on all things Disney and Orlando including disney dining, car rental etc

triplets · 20/11/2009 08:38

Thank you both! No, not US either, I live in Kent right by the sea! I love the States though, we have been to Florida twice and California, Nevada, Arizona four times, just love it!
