Best places we've been to:

FDR in Jamaica
Cap Esterel in the South of France
Bedruthan Steps Hotel in Cornwall

handlemecarefully · 20/06/2005 12:17

Beetroot - you were very cheeky with your first link (lol), but as it happens in all seriousness I was considering France as a possible destination!

Cefalu in Sicily

JoolsToo · 20/06/2005 12:27

you may see a bit of theme with these

Obergurgl, Austria
Selva, Italian Dolomites recommend Hotel Gran Baita
Chamonix, Chalet Blanche

these are more relaxing

Grand Hotel Miramare Taormina Sicily
Playa Blanca, Lanzarote ? Private villa with pool £400 pw ? sleeps 4 ? very comfortable
Riva del Garda, Lake Garda ? recommend Hotel Lido Palace

JoolsToo · 20/06/2005 12:31

after all that just realised I'm not taking children on my holidays - you could take children to the mountains if its your bag but the last couple are probably better.

desperatehousewife · 20/06/2005 12:41

check out www.tablehotels.com - very nice country house hotels and boutique hotels around the world.

Also Simply travel very good - particularly those with creche/kids clubs - we went to akyaka in Turkey which was great for doing nothing except relaxing. 2 weeks for the 3 of us inc kids club for £850. Self catering.

Gobbledigook · 20/06/2005 12:45

Jools, I already linked Obergurgl!

Arran Hideaways

Had the best holiday ever on Arran last month!

QueenFlounce · 20/06/2005 12:46

Ooops didn't work! Try again...

Arran Hideaways again.

Willow2 · 20/06/2005 19:04

Queenofquotes - don't think a trip to Victoria Falls is on the cards right now - he's trashed that (well, the surrounding area) too.

Nearer to home - and currently not being raised to the ground by a nutter - are Periyali Villas, Zakynthos and Mousses, Lefkas. Both Simply Travel - both lovely, relaxed holidays. See here

A couple of places we've enjoyed -
fun in sardinia\link{http://www.starwoodhotels.com/luxury/search/hotel_detail.html?propertyID=5-50k}
and this one\link{http://www.jalousie-hilton.com/} but make sure you get a villa with a plunge pool

swedishmum · 20/06/2005 22:58

So that didn't work. Jalousie Hilton in St Lucia and Hotgel Cala di Volpe in Costa Smerelda, Sardinia. Fab weekend hotel - Gritti Palace, Venice.

milge · 20/06/2005 23:23

Forte Village Sardinia You have to scroll down to the bottom of the page!

Ellbell · 21/06/2005 00:16

We went here last year, and it was fab. We drove down (car essential) stopping in Germany en route, but you could fly and hire a car.

Ellbell · 21/06/2005 01:39

JoolsToo, we went to the mountains with our dds (who were 2 and 4 at the time) last year and it was FAB. The place had loads for them to do (indoor and outdoor play areas), all the local bars and restaurants had swings and other kiddies' play things. We even managed to do some guided walks (though the 2-y-o struggled a bit - she didn't want to be in a backpack - and frankly I didn't really want to be carrying her - but she was too small to walk for long). HMC, I don't know how old your lo's are, but would be great for energetic over-4s imo.

lapsedrunner · 21/06/2005 06:54

Have a look at www.farmholidays.com and www.tiscover.at for excellent self catering in Austria. Or for France look at www.gites-de-france.fr

edhj69 · 21/06/2005 11:56

Watermouth Castle Devon - access all areas for free even when parts closed to rest of public. Fantastic indoor heated pool DS loved the crazy gold though was scared by the Gnomes in Gnomeland.

Willow2 · 21/06/2005 16:19

A note to all you pedants (KS/Bettys) - half way through Celebrity Love Island (how low has my life got?) I realised I had made a terrible spelling mistake in my last post. You and I know that it should be razed.

CarlyP · 22/06/2005 14:12

Havent been yet, but just booked a 4night break to bedruthen steps in cornwall. its meant to be fab!
