Thinking of booking for Xmas for 2 year old. Basically to get away for Xmas.Is he too young?

Any advice on where to stay?
I have no idea where to start!

I did Xmas at Disneyland Paris when my Ds2 was 2yrs of age. It was a disaster and I will never do it again!!!

He was toilet training but ended up back in nappies after this trip, due to the weather being too cold to even get him out of the pram.

We had snow blizzards when we got there. It was -1oC on a good day.

The park was still quite busy, and the queueing was stupid! My Ds1 who was 8 at the time was so disappointed.

Ds2 cried the whole time as he was so cold. The park stretches across open ground, so when the wind blows - it blows .

We ended up spending more time in the hotel room watching french cartoons. We were happy to get back to England to better weathe and friendlier people.

My advice - for a two year old. Don't go!! Go somewere warmer, somewere you don't have the spend half the day outside in the cold.

There are much better places to visit at Christmas time than Disney(ice)land Paris!

me and dh went to disneyland paris at axmas before we had dd, i wouldn't entertain going with a 2yr old, it was too busy and freezing cold.

we took dd who was 3yrs old at the time in november when the xmas festival starts, but it was far too cold for her, she was in her buggy, with cosy toes, blankets, thick winter coat, hat and mittens and she was crying cos it was too cold, never again.

abitlostandconfused · 11/11/2009 02:32

We went in January and wouldn't ever go again to DLP. I'd save a little more and go to America.

Misserable, rude french people. Horrendous smoking regulations, tired unappealing rooms.

Hubby and I were not too bothered with the cold weather though.

mumofsatan · 11/11/2009 12:03

we went in the summer and have to agree with abitlost regarding them bein miserable and rude. Definitely think about Florida instead. In fact, it would have been cheaper for us to go to Florida due to the exchange rate

monkeysmama · 24/11/2009 23:59

Has anyone enjoyed it? I'm going on Saturday for 4 nights & am dreading it. Dd is 18 months & going with friends with ds 7 & ds 20 months.

Blackduck · 25/11/2009 03:40

personally say 2 years old is too young...I went in the summer which at least means the weather was good! (I loathed it, but I don't like theme parks anyway - wasn't my choice...)

slim22 · 25/11/2009 03:54

too young

too cold

too crowded

a bit shocked at "miserable rude french people" but agree with the horrendous smoking regulations.

I loved it

my 3.7 yera old was in his element and the 7 month old enjoyed seeing the characters....

Basically my tips are

  1. stay on site - (one of the Disney hotels and not Davy Crockett Ranch, which is offsite) then you can stop and rest if little'un needs to. You get characters in the hotels, you get in early to avoid the crowds, you get fast passes.

  2. use fastpasses all the time (shortcuts the queues on the 'big' rides like peter pan)

  3. plan around shows and meeting characters, as that it what a 2 year old is going to be most interested in

  4. it is outside so dress accordingly - we had a great time when it tipped down with rain as everyone else went home!

Lets face it it's not as big as Disney America but its closer!

SparkleandShine · 25/11/2009 07:19

Just thinking on from the cold point of view I would dress a 2 year old in a skisuit/snowsuit, thermals and fur lined boots if going at Christmas...when in pushchair you will also need cosy toes or blankets....

monkeysmama · 25/11/2009 08:58

We've got all that. Just bought her some proper thermals. I'm not a fan of Disney nor theme parks but it's for a friend's birthday so we've got to go. Leaving Saturday-wish me luck!

DadInsteadofMum · 25/11/2009 12:17

Exactly as SDparkle says, went last Christmas had a great time - you just need to be a bit savvy about when you are int eh part and how you use your fast passes. Mine are a bit older though - not sure about a 2 yo.

saw the negative posts and went off this idea!
I think he's a bit young, trying to find out if he is actually too small for the kiddie rides.
He would be amazed if he saw Mickey, he just loves him.
i think you take your chances with the weather.
good tip re Disney hotels,
We would actually be there for Xmas day, any thoughts on that?

thanks everyone!
