Orlando Help

I am going to Orlando for 10 days and leave on Boxing Day. I have heard mixed reports about what the weather will be like and have no idea what clothes to pack!!

Has anybody been at that time of year before? Will it be warm enough for shorts/t-shirts or not?

I went to Orlando over Christmas/New Year a few years ago.

The weather was pleasantly warm, but more t-shirts/trousers/cardi in your bag then t-shirt/shorts.

Well that's good news, I wouldnt want to put anyone though the misery of looking my legs on anyone on holiday!

my parents went week before christmas and it was definitely shorts and t shirt weather, yet it can be unpredictable. they hadnt packed enough summer clothes so had to go out and buy more (not that my mum minded!)

mckenzie · 21/12/2009 16:58

hiya triffictits, I'm posting a similar question here too (hadn't read yours first, oops).
We went last christmas and it was glorious weather - we were in vest tops, shorts and sun hats every day with just a fleece on the top if we went out early in the morning (normal for first few days because of jet lag). The forecast isn't looking so good though now is it? We fly wednesday so I can post thursday if you like to give you an idea or check out the post that i started later - another Mumsnetter is trying to get hold of some of her friends via Facebook who live in Florida for the latest.

Hope you have a great holiday, whatever the weather.

DaftApeth · 21/12/2009 17:09

You can find out the weather from here. Just google 'Miami weather forcast' or whatever the city is you are going to.

My parents are just back from Florida this week and it was mixed - 80 deg some days but cold and rainy others. Usual december weather there really.

I have been before when the temp got down below zero during the day!

Have a great trip. Got to be warmer than here

mckenzie · 21/12/2009 18:32

i've been looking on the websites daft but i just cant seem to equate what they are showing me to what clothing I would then where

mckenzie · 21/12/2009 18:33

or even wear

chopstheduck · 21/12/2009 18:38

defo mixed. We went there for a fortnight a couple of years ago. Some days were tshirt and shorts, some were jeans and jumpers. I'd pack a variety and layer up.

The outlets are sooo cheap though, you can always buy more if you need it.

DaftApeth · 21/12/2009 19:41

Have had a quick look at Orlando over christmas.

Has some mid 20's, which I would say was shorts and t-shirts, if sunny too.

Under 20, I would wear trousers and have a jumper.

Jumpers are more tricky to buy out there, ime, although disney has sweatshirts, obviously, but you will pay a premium there.

You'll need coat/heavy jumper on your trip to airport this end, so you'll have something warmer each. Then lots of layers are the way to go, as chops says, long sleeve t-shirts, shirts, cardigans.

The evenings will always be cooler and you will need a jumper no matter how warm during the day.

Is that any help?

mckenzie · 21/12/2009 20:05

thanks very much daft and everyone else. Think I've got my head round it now. Off to make a start. Oh how I hate this bit!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 22/12/2009 14:13

I'm in Orlando at present.

You will definately need to wear a jacket or fleece first thing the morning. It gets warmer though by lunchtime.

It also gets cold here after dark (sunset occurs here just before 6pm).

mckenzie · 22/12/2009 14:32

thanks attila. Just watching the Virgin website now to make sure flight isn't cancelled. Apparently some have been

triffictits · 22/12/2009 20:11

hope your flight isnt cancelled mckenzie - is it due to the weather? I will keep everything crossed.

I have packed now - just thrown a load of jeans in and t-shirts with fleece/tops incase its cold too and for the evenings. Its a real mixture and is more difficult than normal holiday packing when you know if its going to be cold or warm!

Have a great holiday

hi triffictits, well yesterday was perfect - sunn but not too hot. DH and DS were in shorts and t shirts and DD and I were in t shirts and lightweight jeans with sandals. Itwas fab. This morning however it is raining. and raining and raining and raining. Even the thought of jumping into the heated outdoor pool in the rain isn't doing it for us! We'd said that if he had a washout day we'd go to the outlets but i'm guessing they wont be open as it's christmas day today. Hence I'm on here and the DCs are watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Let's hope for both our sakes that this is just a one off. Hope you hve a safe journey.

oldraver · 30/12/2009 20:52

Glad your flight wasnt cancelled.. My folks went on 22nd and were due to taxi when the runway was shut. They spent the next 6 1/2 hours sat on the plane at the gate.

My folks say its about 10-15 degrees colder than normal (they go most Christmas's) so i've been out and bought a few long sleeved tops and a sweat cardi. I hope it gets better
