Anyone flown with easyjet recently? Bloody hilarious!

oh my god, I have never seen anything like it before it was HYSTERICAL!

They have speedy boarders (additional £12 a head), then SA (special assistance - prams/disabled) and then groups A & B

NO seat allocation!

Honest, it was like a race, on the way out, they did call for people with children of 10 and under so dd & I got on fine & obviously sat together, on the way home..........
we were group A, we got up to queue and it was like a mass evacuation of the airport.... people were running to the front, we did get to the front of group A ( as we were there ages before anyone else) but people were shouting and threatening to lamp each other for pushing etc.......
then we got onto buses to go out to the plane........... well, that was hilarious, these 2 men who had almost had a fight were firstish on the bus, but of course, last off! When the bus doors opened, people literally ran for the plane, my mum (bless her - 60 & super fit) was off like a whippet so dd & I hung back and were able to witness it all.........
we were halfway up the steps when the bus containing group B opened it's doors, 2 people FELL OVER and again, just running! Pushing old ladies & kids out of the way .......
WHY are easyjet the only airline who don;t allocate seats on checking in? Does it save them money? it didn't take any less time for US to check in, same fussing & questions etc.

We heard some hilarious comments, as we watched the speedy boarders ascend the steps, some wag shouted out ......... "ready ....... set........."
someone else shouted
"last one on the planes an idiot"
this one was a tad racist/innapropriate but sorry, was pretty funny....
"thank god you lot ain't German, I ain't got me towel..."
I have never witnessed people so agressive! The thing that pees me off is that my dd is 10, no way on this earth is she sitting without me, but seriously, if I were seated away from dh or infact from my mum when we go to NYC next month, it wouldnt BOTHER bother me - I would rather sit with them but you know....... it should all be about families being able to be together.
We flew home from mainland spain a couple of years ago and all 3 kids were dotted round the plane as they had allocated us 3 adults with the extra leg room seats (we are all 5ft and really didnt care!) we refused to sit down, the hostesses were crap, and we had to ask peole to move, it was simple really, we offered a row of 3 adults the extra leg room, then sat 1 adult and the then 4 and 7 yr olds with them, allowing initially for the 13 yr old to sit alone but diagonal to me. Another family then reshuffled to allow us to be together - their reason? Because they had been in a non fatal plane crash whilst dotted round the aircraft!
But no single childless couple would do ANYTHING to help.
ANyway, i went on and on then didnt I?
My real point being that we won't EVER fly easyjet again (unless forced) because, hilarious though it was, it was CRAP!

As DH is Irish and we have no other airline to take us there other than Ryanair, I'm LMAO at the stories. I've been there so many times! Love the Times story (Mr & Mrs SoB)

Shodan · 02/12/2009 13:36

My DH and I nearly had a Serious Disagreement when we flew EasyJet.

We tried to work out which doors on the bus would deliver us to the right end of the plane for boarding. I was sure I'd got it right and bossily told DH to stand with me, which he did.

Would've been great except I picked the wrong side of the bus so we were the last off, virtually. And God did he go on about it.

Twas ok in the end though. We, aong with most of our busload, hadn't realised you could board the plane at the back too, so we just sauntered on to a pair of not-too-bad seats at all.

Not ever doing it again though. I'd much rather have a Nice seat allocation, even if it is right by the loos. At least it's mine.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 02/12/2009 23:09

Buda, you can try standing up and refusing to sit - God knows I did. Air (bar)steward threatened to kick me off the plane.

MistletoeNoelPresents · 02/12/2009 23:16

I am using EasyJet currently as flying in and out of Geneva, tis just me.

Last month i was one of the last 10 people on the plane, we didn't rush and while everyone else was mainly sitting 3 to each row, some of us were in a row by ourselves at the back of the plane.

We deplaned in Bristol and again leisurely made our way in and yes we queued at passport control but when we got thru the bags had only just started appearing so no fuss, no rush and we were a hell of a lot less frazzled than the pushers and shovers.

Buda · 03/12/2009 06:34

That'll be fine Stripey. I will do so. Very very slowly. And they will then have to take our bags off. So they will miss their slot. Which airlines hate to do as it costs them money.

God I am getting worked up already. Aaargh!

Breathe. Breathe. It will be fine. We will head to the back of the plane. We will get seats together. Breathe. Think calm thoughts.

I so recognise the scenario depicted by the OP, and try to laugh it off, otherwise I'd probably be in the newspapers the next day with the new nickname "The Easy Jet Ripper" or similar.
Does anyone else totally and utterly despair of the wankers impatient people who just have to take off their seatbelts, grab their luggage and then stand imaptiently in the aisle (usually with their irritating arse right at your face level) before the seatbelt sign has even been switched off?

QOD · 03/12/2009 15:26

Oh yeah! the uppers and the make a mobile phone call even though we were CLEARLY just told not to use them until in the terminal...

I wouldnt care about their system if they allowed anyone travelling with an under 16 yr old to get on first.

Aw, I love Easyjet. Love the slightly amateurness of it all, it amuses me no end. This summer, our party sat across the whole back row. The food trolley came round, started with us, and all 6 of us got a bacon roll, which was actually v delicious. As we were licking our lips and slathering over lovely British bacon, a message came over the tannoy that there was now no more hot food and only cold sandwiches could be purchased. Felt a touch guilty to say the least...

On a serious note though, their fleet is the newest of any British airline, and I've never experienced a fault, delay or problem with them in over 10 years of many many flights.
Ryanair, however. Not even if you paid me.

PerArduaAdSolInvictus · 04/12/2009 21:43

Yep. Would need to be paid a Lot of money before flying Ryanair again... At least Easyjet doesn't tell you it's your fault...

yayitstheweekend · 04/12/2009 21:45

We almost always fly EasyJet and have never had any problems or any delays.

fluffles · 04/12/2009 21:50

why the stress or rush? i always sit and read in the waiting room until the queue has gone completely.

and if i had a small child with me i'd put them in a seat and then ask if the adult next to them wanted to stay there and be in loco parentis or would like to swap with me - the stewards and stewardesses would never actually allow a tiny child to sit alone anyway.

chill people!

MistletoeNoelPresents · 05/12/2009 18:31

Well today EJ missed their slot at CDG,Paris so was late arriving in Bristol so we were 50 minutes late departing for Geneva and only 3 spare seats on board.

Lapsedrunner · 05/12/2009 19:59

I agree with fluffles - board last. You are never going to be left with the situation where you have to sit apart from your dc, someone will move once you stand in the aisle for long enough delaying the flight

applepudding · 26/12/2009 22:38

Oh God why have I just read this? I hate hate flying and tomorrow am off on Easyjet to Malaga! After a couple of years Ryanair I was pleased to be flying anything but - due to Ryanair weight restrictions I've had to repack suitcases at the check in desk twice.

I'm sure I've flown Easyjet before and don't recall any problems - I think they let us board first with a child - although DS was probably in a pushchair at the time and he's 8 now.

Am worrying even more now than I was before!

poorbuthappy · 26/12/2009 22:48

Will never fly ryanair again after being abandoned in Dublin airport a few years ago due to adverse weather conditions...thank god it was without kids as I shudder to think how much worse the nightmare would have been...we ended up getting the last 2 seats on a BA flight who were flying, we flew into Gatwick and our car was at Bristol. Cue long train journey and expensive taxi ride, and extremely thankful drive home at 3am the following day.
And still no one has explained why BA were flying and none of the cheap airlines were...although we have our theories

I gladly paid twice the price last year to fly BA to Italy with dd1 who was 3, and being 20 week pregnant with twins cos at least I knew we wouldn't be completely abandoned if something went wrong.

And now we have no money so won't be flying anyway for a few years!

blithedance · 26/12/2009 22:50

I think the secret with Easyjet is Knowing What to Expect - then you can resist the temptation to get worked up about it. Never as bad that second time - you can enjoy picking out the first timers. But then have never attempted it with small children, probably best to imagine you are taking your journey on a crowded tube train and lower expectations accordingly.

I remember one EJ flight where the cabin crew introduced themselves as Sparkle, Twinkle and Mischief.

FiandB · 06/04/2010 11:45

Having just read this thread I thought I should add a big warning about Easyjet to other parents.
I booked Easyjet tickets to fly to Edinburgh in January with my husband and 10 month old. Having arrived at check-in 20 minutes before it was due to close we, and everyone after us in the queue, were told the flight was overbooked and we were all being moved to the flights 2 hours later.
Given that our original flight was 7.30pm you can imagine how impressed we were- if my daughter had chosen to scream down the later flight it would have been a horrible trip for everyone!
Apparently there are no special rules in the case of overbooking for people travelling with infants/young children. I know all airlines overbook to some degree but there were at least 20 people bumped to the later flight!!
We are due decent compensation (under European law, certainly not Easyjet's own choice) but despite a lot of chasing and promises this has yet to materialise two months on.

waitingforgodot · 07/04/2010 20:47

thanks for that.
I have a son with autism and was debating whether or not to fly Easyjet on holiday this year as the flights were a bit cheaper. Having read this, I have decided to give Easyjet a wide berth. Thanks again!

omydarlin · 10/04/2010 12:31

eeek ! Im flying with Easyjet to Portugal in July id assumed there was some law about not eperating children from parents o flights - could my 6 yr old daughter be left on her own next to a row of strangers trying to getthem to be "in her show" she willof course have to play the dual roles of Gabriella and Sharpay and heaven help them if they sing out of tune !!

BigMamaB · 02/07/2010 10:08

Flying with easyjet on my own with 3 month old DD... bit concerned that I'll be stuck at the window or in the middle seat. I'll be [descretely] breast feeding on take off and landing and certainly dont want anyone to get 'funny' about it as nothing gets my back up more!
Gone are the days when any seat would do as long as you could get a G&T...!!
