thisisyesterday · 20/08/2009 18:37

heard good things about it, but not been yet myself. meant to take ds1 but had forgotten so thanks for the reminder!

Sorry - shameful Southern bias. It's in London. Forest Hill, to be precise.

I LOVE the Horniman Museum. Just wish it was easier to get to.

jkklpu · 20/08/2009 19:41

it is good but my abiding memory of it is that it was quite poorly lit - better for a 3+yo than 1-2s, I'd say

snort at hornimann

Went today, and my three loved it (5, 9 and 11) It is quite dark, and it isn't really aimed at little children, but there were a fair few there and they seemed to be having fun running around.

Apart from that there are a few free activities going on, if you can time it right. DCs managed to get in an art one, and made Carnival bird masks.

Very good.

Was it really bust, serenity? Thinking of going tomorrow.

OP posts:
seeker · 20/08/2009 21:31

busy - not bust!

Busy, but not excessively. No queues to do things, DCs had to wait their turns on exhibits but not for ages. We were there from about 2.30, not sure if it was busier earlier on.

Just reporting back to say that Dp took the dcs yesterday and they had an excellent time. They are 8 and 13, so it works for older ones as well. They said that it was very badly lit, though, and for older ones (and grown ups) they felt they wanted more information about the things.

Dp says that the food was good and very good value for London.

One of the excellent things about the Horniman is that they have a big area with tables (under cover, inside a big glasshouse) where you can eat your own picnic. It's great when places do that as it can make a massive difference to the cost of family outings, and make life with fussy eaters easier, too.

We went a few weeks ago and dd2 (7) is still talking about it. Lots of the other exhibits were interesting too. www.horniman.ac.uk/exhibitions/current_exhibition.php?exhib_id=92
