Got you mixed up with another MNetter who lives in Rhodos. We left our hearts in Faliraki (stop being sick ) 10 visits ago and cant go a year without returning. We have made fantastic friends with the local people. We stay at the Hotel Venezia and are already counting down the days till next August!!!

Alypaly - Halki is a tiny island around 1.5 hours from Rhodes Halki - a bit like Symi only much smaller. Unfortunately (under normal pre-children circumstances would be no problem), most of it is right on the waterside so I'd be too worried about DD running off and falling in the harbour. Diving straight from your apartment into the water can't be beaten but not very practical with a child to worry about so we'll wait til she's a bit older I think!

No idea what we're looking for really - I'm fancying Corsica maybe or a small, quiet Greek resort.

Oh thanks for that - I'll have a look.

With regards Halki, I think I've been about 7 or 8 times and have stayed in various villas/studios in the 'town'. Three of them were right on the waterside and the others were staggered up the steep hills. Laskarina and Direct Greece used to go there but the former no longer trades and I think DG were bought out by a larger company and I'm not sure if they still go there - or if they do - whether its still 'the same' (iykwim). When I first went there were no cars at all, last time I went (2003/4?) there was a taxi or two and one cashpoint machine which was the talk of the island!

If you want quiet and not too expensive..go to skiathos...it is lovely...we stayed at koukounaries, in self catering.
I only cook breakfast and then we eat out for the rest of the day. I actually love sitting on the balcony with a fruit salad, cereal and cooked breakfast just chatting with the neighbours...its very greek like.

Koukounaries beach can get a tad busy a high season but the rest of the area is fantastic for children, really safe beaches, mainly sand at that end of the island.

There are 3 other beaches you can walk to but there are so many more if you hire a car, just with one taverna and crystal clear sea. sometimes there were only 20 of us on the beach.
Just sat and fished and snorkled ..oooh...wish i was there now...

Many thanks. I'll investigate Skiathos and Halkidiki.
