Every year, about this time, I get depressed - it is my responsibility to book our family holiday & the pressure to get it right is immense

I absolutely hate it

I generally do OK - DH & DD are happy, but the whole performance is so stressful it is unbelievable

is there an easier way to do it (apart from staying at home?)

Just give us your requirements...

Or find a good independent travel agent who knows their stuff.

No - it's for Christmas I book now because it is only by now that I know I can afford it (usually because I have paid off most of the CC from last year )

I finish work on 24th Dec & am back at work on Monday 4th Jan (at 7:30am)

I like food & sailing
DD likes sailing, windsurfing & cycling
DH likes food & cycling (& the odd bit of tennis)

We have done Egypt quite a lot but DH fancies something different - I hate holiday searching

What is it you hate?
Is it guessing what they will like?
Is it finding something at the right price?
Is it matching up the travelling with the accommodation and everything else?

Katymac · 11/08/2009 21:39

It's the responsibility of it all - It's our only luxury (don't drink/go out etc)

It's fairly important for our health (DH benefits from winter sun, I have SAD & ME)

If it isn't right it spoils everything (which I know isn't true)

South Africa is good that time of year and no jet lag as an hour or two ahead, and it has all the things you want.

Or a Med cruise, surprisingly warm/hot whenever we have been in southern Spain at Christmas.

saggyhairyarse · 11/08/2009 21:45

Sri Lanka also be good that time of year or India.

jkklpu · 11/08/2009 21:46

wherever you go, make sure you get decent travel insurance - it's not the item to skimp on

Katymac · 11/08/2009 21:51

I don't both DH & I have 'pre-existing conditions' so we go with Green be (I think it's called)

Cape verdi looks lovely

Now I just need to sort out sailing & bike riding........I could really fancy that

Have you looked at the new Neilson hotel in Kenya? Apparently the sailing is unrivalled and there are great cycling routes.

Katymac · 12/08/2009 10:47

Yep - but the dr doesn't think DH would cope with the malaria meds on top of what he already takes & I can't have any inoculations due to having ME/CFS

I'm glad I checked before booking as I nearly did

I so want to go - which is probably making this years decision worse iyswim

Oh - sorry Katymac - I did think it looked perfect for you, but of course the meds make all the difference. Something else will turn up.

janinlondon · 12/08/2009 13:06

What about Sunsail Fuerteventura?

Katymac · 12/08/2009 15:04

Looks fabulous & costs £6k for a week

Just found this but unfortunately we can't take DD unless we hire the whole boat
