... at Gatwick airport? I read on their site that you can but then it says you have to taste 50% of the content or something?? I want to bring about 4 cartons of 200ml Aptamil cartons with me on my short haul trip.

Let me know!!

not if you want to keep them sealed

buy them in the Boots airside

PestoMonster · 04/08/2009 09:12

I think it's still a 100ml limit on all liquids. You should buy your baby milk airside to avoid this problem.

Buda · 04/08/2009 09:17

From other posts on here I think you can pre-order the milk to make sure they have the right ones and then you pick it up.

Have a look on the Gatwick website and see if you can find a number for Boots airside and call them.

theyoungvisiter · 04/08/2009 09:18

Food & drink for babies is supposed to be exempt I think, certainly I've not been asked to taste any of the liquids I took for DS2 and it was a lot more than 100ml, but this was only water so I wasn't bothered if they made me pour it away.

It's probably easier just to leave enough time to buy them airside as others have said. Or you could take them, but be prepared to have to chuck and re-purchase if the security guard is feeling strict.

In my expereince if you take cartons of liqud through without telling them they don't pick them up on the scan machine anyway. I'vetaken no end of orange juice cartons through and they've never been found. Wheras anything in a bottle shape has been confiscated.

3cutedarlings · 04/08/2009 09:29

we were made to taste a bottle of water at manchester last mth, it was in baby feeding bottle.

you can pre order formula from boot in manc airport so i would think you could at gatwick.

MrsPuddleduck · 04/08/2009 09:36

We took powder through and then made up the bottles with bottled water bought once we got through passport control. You have to be careful which sort of water you buy though because of the mineral content. I think Volvic is Ok as I remember.

savoycabbage · 04/08/2009 09:38

My dd won't drink formula so I had 9 bottles of cows milk because I couldn't buy formula 'on the other side'

You are allowed to take more than the 100mls limit if it is milk for a baby. I had to taste every one both here and in Singapore. They were really, really strict about it. They took a sealed box of juice tpp that was for my other dd.

I bought a Charlie and Lola comic for my dd in the airport and they saw the tiny pva glue in a craft kit on the front on the scanner and took it.

we're going away in september, and my son is on nutramigen prescription milk because of lactose intollerance, can i take the tins with me abroad in the suitcase?? Sorry if this seems a daft question but i've never been abroad!

Buda · 05/08/2009 06:57

Hi LisamumtoJake - is it tins of the powder to make up? That is no problem to take. It is the cartons of ready made up liquid formula that it a problem due to the restrictions on how much liquids you can carry in your hand luggage.

Where are you off to?

theyoungvisiter · 05/08/2009 08:03

also Lisa, it's only your hand luggage that's restricted. Any suitcases that go in the hold are fine to have liquids in, as much as you like.

LisamumtoJake · 06/08/2009 10:20

Thanks Ladies!!

We're off to menorca on 5th september for our honeymoon, as i get married on the 3rd. So little dumpling is coming with us. Thats fine about packing the nutramigen tins then, with regards to the hand luggage can i take one of my powder dispensers with powder in it to make up the little man's bottle.

girlsyearapart · 06/08/2009 10:27

Can I be rude and ask where in menorca you are going? we are trying to book and can't choose!
Also do you get extra baggage allowance for the nutramigen? Think we'll prob need about 3 tins for the week.
When we travelled to oz with dd1 we had water from home in the sterilised bottles and the formula powder. They said to 'be prepared to open and taste' but we didn't have to in the end.
My sister had to open all her jars of baby food before her long haul flight though so beter to buy airside if you can.

LisamumtoJake · 06/08/2009 20:47

Yes we got extra baggage allowance 3 tins is what we are going to take too for the week We are going to cala n bosch its meant to be beautiful apparently so hopefully it will be lol.

girlsyearapart · 07/08/2009 08:16

We booked majorca in the end can picafort. The airline give adults 20kg and infants 10kg so we should be fine!
Calanbosch is meant to be lovely. Have fun x

Hi - I traveled to Australia last December and took about 20 cartons of ready-made Aptamil with me (I did buy these airside at Heathrow admittedly - check with Boots at Gatwick and ensure they have some in stock) - I had no issue whatsoever - and I had a layover in Singapore. The authorities were very kind and understanding - with recent events I'm not sure how you'd go though.

PlumpRumpSoggyBaps · 08/09/2009 16:36

I flew to Turkey last year from Gatwick and had no trouble getting Aptamil in Boots, airside.

This year we came back from Florida with two unopened bottles of cow's milk and they have a nifty little gadget to scan all liquids etc there. The security guy went when I said we had to taste everything we brought through last year at Gatwick. Think we need to get with the times here.....

PlumpRumpSoggyBaps · 08/09/2009 16:37

We did take some already in a bottle through security here. I just had to have a sip and a teeny amount of the jarred food.

I took a couple of cartons of ready made Aptimal through airport security this weekend with no problems. I did take them out of my bag and "declare" them but as I had my DD with me they were allowed through.

oldraver · 13/09/2009 22:58

SGM have you taken soya milk complete in an unopened litre container.

ksmshoelover · 10/12/2009 21:51

Hi All, just been looking on here as travelling to Australia in a weeks time and been worrying about taking formula through security. Know it's an old thread but thought would post in case anyone finds it in the future- I just phoned Boots airside in T3 at Heathrow, and they told me they definitely stock Aptamil cartons, and if I phone 3 days before my flight they will reserve as many cartons as I need and I can pick them up when I'm through security- relief! Although now I'm of course worrying in case someone messes up and this doesn't happen.... hmmmm. The trials and tribulations of flying long-haul with a baby!
