Going to Norfolk, and keep thinking there must be something else to pack!!

Bottle opener/corkscrew

Bath mat -theres nothing worse than stepping out of a bath/shower onto a cold tiled/lino floor (IME a lot of places don't provide them)

Sharp knife if you're likely to be cooking there

Dishcloth/Tea towels/washing-up liquid

CaurnieBred · 31/07/2009 08:43

Toffee Vodka. This certainly made our last self catering trip fun!

brimfull · 31/07/2009 08:45

cd's
dvd's for down time

good book
phone charger -I always forget that

CaurnieBred · 31/07/2009 08:45

Seriously thought, knife sharpener (their knives are always blunt) and tin foil (to line dodgy tins).

MaybeAfterBreakfast · 31/07/2009 08:51

towels
cafetiere
sharp knives
baking tray

seeker · 31/07/2009 08:55

corkscrew.

Whatever you use to make coffee in.

A sharp knife.

A BIG pan for cooking pasta in.

Hot water bottles.

MaybeAfterBreakfast · 31/07/2009 08:57

Sheeta · 31/07/2009 09:01

Wellies!!

As a kid we went all the way to the Lake District (about 250 miles from home) and when we got there Mum had forgotten all of our shoes. Whoops.

LIZS · 31/07/2009 09:05

Fairy liquid - a great all purpose cleaner (floors , cooker, shower etc)
Teatowel/dishcloth
Extra towels
Tinfoil and clingfilm#
Picnic stuff
Wellies and waterproofs
Subncream and sun hats
Buckets and spades, nets, inflatable ball
Black bin liners

seeker · 31/07/2009 11:47

pegs!

somewhathorrified · 31/07/2009 12:03

Take a salt, pepper, ketchup etc with you, the number of times I've had to buy all this stuff new when you only need it a few times is ridiculous looks at the array of salt pots from around the country

frisbyrat · 31/07/2009 12:05

torch.
first aid kit with painkillers, stuff for diarrhea.
dettol spray

can you tell I've had bad experiences?

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 31/07/2009 12:08

Pillows. The ones there will be flat.

aquavit · 31/07/2009 12:26

ooh good thread. Definitely salt/pepper/spices/whatever you cook with but would be daft to buy just for a week or so.

Lots of tea lights - citronella ones if you are going to be outside of an evening (perhaps not in Norfolk...) - they make even the most gloomy holiday cottage pretty.

Sharp knife.

stealthsquiggle · 31/07/2009 12:28

Definitely spices/condiments.

COFFEE and cafetiere.

Wellies, waders, waterproofs....

seeker · 31/07/2009 12:34

Did I say hot water bottles?

Sagacious · 31/07/2009 12:35

Nice snacks
Dvd's
Dishwasher tablets
Tea towel and dish cloth
Paracetamol/calpol

basic · 31/07/2009 12:38

like shoes but coats because it's not actually winter you will not be wearing them - easy to forget oh and brollies if it's not raining when you set off! Though it can be the highlight of the day to go out shopping for a new brolly!

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 31/07/2009 12:39

emergency wine/chocolate.

TigerDrivesAgain · 31/07/2009 12:41

what everyone else said:

corkscrew/bottle opener
sharp knife
candles but don't forget matches!
music (we take CD player as well as CDs as ones there never work)
spare towels good if you have room
tea, coffee and milk for when you arrive (or beer/wine etc!)

earlyriser · 31/07/2009 13:12

Oh ice cube trays/bags if not already mentioned. essential for that first G&T on the patio

seeker · 31/07/2009 13:16

Cooking oil
