Baby passport photo......................how??

did you get a pic of your baby before they were sitting up?

Only thing I can think is to a) Take baby to a shop to be photographed (still don't know how they take a pic without me being in it)

or

hold them up in a booth- I imagine this would be difficult since you're not allowed to see your hand in the photo.

we used to lay them flat on a white sheet and take our own. it was always accepted.

Pinkjenny · 30/06/2009 10:47

I took dd to a local shop, I think it was Click, where I held her up and the assistant took her picture with a digital camera, then cropped my hand out.

1dilemma · 30/06/2009 10:50

Did they have a photographer round to take piccies in the hospital? we used those.

1dilemma · 30/06/2009 10:50

Snappy print or what ever the shop on the high street is called will take them for about £5

zazizoma · 30/06/2009 10:51

I've done this twice for babies under three months; lay the baby on a sheet at home, take a photo with your digital camera, and send the resulting file here.

LouLovesAeroplaneJelly · 30/06/2009 10:53

Jessops have a big white cushion that they lie the babies on then take the photo from above.

PortAndLemon · 30/06/2009 10:58

Snappy Snaps do a good job and TBH I'd just use them now although I did the DCs' passport photos myself when we needed them. If you want to do it yourself, either put something white down, lay them on it and take picture from above or take white sheet to photo booth, put white sheet over you, put baby on your lap.

weepootle · 30/06/2009 11:15

Thanks all for the tips. I've just taken some of dd2 laid on the white bedspread, so I can use them if there isn't a jessops type place in town.

snapysnaps that was the name thanks

Slightly amusing story although nothing to add really, I had to hold DD up like PinkJenny and it was the first and probably only time since that she just fell asleep by herself! (ie no rocking or BFing) She just dropped off while I was holding her at arms' length!

DadInsteadofMum · 01/07/2009 11:56

Lay white sheet on floor hover above listening to DW issuing dire warnings about dropping camera of DC. Take picture.

Check picture, DC chose that moment to turn head.

Flatten sheet, lay DC back down, listen to DW's dire warnings again. Take picture.

Clean vomit off of sheet, (how do they know?), change DCs clothes, hover but realise vomit stain is in wrong place, get new sheet.

Lay white sheet on floor hover above listening to DW etc etc. Take picture.

Repeat, eventually it works

Do be careful- I recently had to redo dds photos twice! The first time her head didn't fill 80% of the photo, (or whatever percentage the ppt office decrees) and their photo-reader-software just rejected it. The second lot her face was 1.5mm (yup, millimetres) too short on it. The face length has to be (I think) more than 29mm and less than 34 mm.
T'is a mare.

TabithaTwitchet · 01/07/2009 12:21

We had ours done at Snappy Snaps, as they guarantee you that your application won't be rejected because of the photo.

Beware if you are doing it yourself, the regulation is for off white background, not white. (Would be no problem using any of my once white sheets though)

SoupDragon · 01/07/2009 12:24

I get my passport photos printed at passpic.com

weepootle · 01/07/2009 20:22

Thanks for that link Soupy, I tried the photobooth but out of 3 pics none of them were compliant.

I've now ordered some passport prints from bonusprint and if those are no good I'll give passpic a go.
