We arrived nearly 2 hours early on the French side and got the next train! I guess you would be offered the next available slot.

schmu · 22/06/2009 12:15

thanks

yes we did same as madamy - so long as there is space, that is.

kando · 22/06/2009 12:18

Yes, you will (as long as there is space of course). We have used the tunnel quite a few times, and all the times we were early they put us on the next train.

kando · 22/06/2009 12:18

That should, of course, be "they" will

magso · 22/06/2009 12:32

It depends if they have room - no chance if it is busy. In my experience (both on standard and frequent traveller bookings) they will usually put you on a slightly earlier crossing if there is room, but not several hours early. We arrived 6 hours early once and got on a train 2 hours before our booked one. Other times ( 1-2 hours early) we have gone straight through. Sometimes there is a top up fee if the earlier crossing is more expensive. They do have a ?flexipass system but it is more costly.

Tortington · 22/06/2009 12:38

yes, never had any problems

Kiwinyc · 22/06/2009 12:53

yes, although we've never been very early, but they will put you on a earlier crossing if there's room. If you're late they'll put you on the next one too... as we discovered last time!

Coalman · 22/06/2009 12:54

We have always been put through on an earlier one, and have not been charged a top up yet.

schmu · 22/06/2009 13:33

thats good to know, thanks.

I know MissSunny, we just have not been asked to pay the higher fare, even out of the right time yet. I imagine that they are supposed to, but we have been lucky so far.

Badpups · 22/06/2009 20:05

We've been told by Eurotunnel that you can travel up to 2 hours either side of your booked crossing without paying a penalty. However, I suspect that it depends on availability so in peak season you may have to wait.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 22/06/2009 20:18

recently - no prob getting an earlier crossing - a few years ago they charged about 30 quid, but have done several recently and always end up turning up early - if space we are put on @ no extra charge.

magso · 23/06/2009 10:48

We have only once been asked to pay a top up fee - whilst using our frequent traveller ticket. It was the time we turned up very early for our train, on a busy very stormy'last day of the holidays' sunday. We have been late a few times too - although not yet beyond our 2 hours buffer, and usually bumped onto the next available train.

mjltigger · 11/04/2014 20:02

Sorry to reanimate a zombi but we are just about to leave.. overnight ticket last minute, 32 quid each way.. 2 hours early going, 2 hours late coming back.. 2 nights in France with a cheap hotel.. all in grown up weekend away for about 150 quid.. perfick
