Best website for booking hotels in NYC

We are off on honeymoon to NYC in october... we have a (not so) short list of hotels that we like, have roughly priced them up on their own websites, but most are still at list price just now.

Are we better to wait until a few weeks/days before we fly out?

Can anypne reccomend any cheaper websites?

TIA

NYC hotel rooms can be hideously expensive regardless of the time of year you travel.

As its your honeymoon destination as well I would book the hotel asap and not wait until the last minute. Would use the hotel's website directly or alternatively use someone like expedia.

Also look at www.tripadvisor.com for up to date reviews and photos of the hotel/rooms.

thanks attilla.

We've been before but it was very last minute so i'm trying to get organised this time.

We've budgeted bout £1000 for 3 nights, but it would be great if we could get a bargin, doubtful though.

Its just such a time consuming task, even with a small list of hotels, checking each website, then comparison sites and trip advisor. I could spend every day til october and still be no further forward.

Hi DH, DS 5yo and I want to go to New York for a week. Any recommendations re apartments or other places to stay

last time I stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton, Charlton Street. The rooms are small, like everywhere in NY, but it was good otherwise. Not really "honeymoon luxury" but it depends on what you are looking for. We had a very good price, nice coffee in the room, good bathroom and it is very close to the tube station. At night, you only had to walk for 5 minutes to have 100's of restaurants available. I think it is better than staying downtown where the choice for evening restaurant is not as good.

I don't have any specific advice but have you considered paying someone to do the legwork for you?

I have a friend ( here's her website who does thing for a living. She's worked in the travel industry and last summer saved a friend about £1000 on a trip. All for about an hour's work - I think she charges £20 ph.

Might be worth looking at?
