Somerset is a large county - where will you be near?

You may be near the Devon boarder and want to go to The Big Sheep or The Milkyway on a riany day (went to both with five dc ranging from 13 - 1and they all loved it)

Lynton and lynmouth brass rubbing down near the quay.

Minehead: seaside town so has various touristy bits + there's a Butlins which (AFAIK) you can get day passes to.

Dunster: medieval village, touristy shops, galleries and a NT castle which is open to the public (costs a bit to get in though).

Loads of villages on the coast which are nice to look around and have nice seaside walks.

There's also the West Somerset Railway which operates in the area - they have services from Minehead and other stations nearby. They do some themed journeys too, such as lunch trips.

Exmoor: loads of lovely walks and lots of nice villages and towns to have a mooch around.

Depending on how much driving you want to do, you're going to be about 1 1/2 hours from the south coast so you could visit Lyme Regis, Beer, Bridport or some of those places too if you liked.

There is an aquarium in Weston that is indoors.

Puxton Park near Congresbury which has big indoor softplay.

There is a leisure pool in Minehead.

Wookey Hole and Cheedar caves not too far away, mostly indoors if in a cave!

Butlins day pass.

You could go into Bristol and do museums, Explore etc. Even the zoo is good on a rainy day as a lot of the enclosures are indoors.

West Somerset Railway, you will be dry on the train.

Also Tropiquaria, Combe Sydenham Country Park and Cleeve Abbey.

You're also quite close to Bath and to Glastonbury/Wells.

I love the clock in Wells Cathederal - great at 11am or 12 pm.

saggyhairyarse · 25/05/2009 19:45

I reckon Bristol would be just over an hour but everything else in an hour easy (unless the motorway rammed!).

the aquarium at weston is not great - we went last year on a wet day and were very disappointed.
