Sharm El Sheikh - Any good hotels with separate living/sleep areas?

Hi all,

Looks like Sharm El Sheikh might be a go-er for us. DS will be 18 months old then and he's a great little sleeper in his own room but we don't want to be stuck with him all night in a hotel room (he's quite sensitive to light and noise). I will be due No. 2 in November so really want a nice , relaxing break for us all. Currently looking at Four Seasons (probably too expensive though) but Hyatt Regency seems well within our budget and is highly recommended on MN.

Got a few questions if anyone who has been can help!

  1. If we go for Hyatt Regency, do they do all inclusive (have only seen half board option) and do they do separate living/sleep rooms (i.e. in the style of a suite)?
  1. Any other hotel recommendations for good hotels that is all inclusive (or at least half board)?
  1. Any recommendations for good travel agents?

Thanks!

Ax

Thanks MissSunny, that's really helpful. I think it's up to DH (since he's paying for it!) and also he's the more fussy one. I'm quite happy with whatever as long as I don't have the hassle of having to cook! Ha ha. I think I have read good stuff about Sultan Gardens. Will have a closer look at all your suggestions. I just want a relaxing holiday, how hard is that?

The new Sunrise Tirana and also the Aqua Blu have 2 bedroom family rooms. Both hotels have onsite waterparks so they are aimed at the family not the luxury market. Having said that, I believe they are supposedly 5*. Have stayed at the Aqua Blu and also the LTI Grand Azure if you want any further info.

Hi copycat, would love any other info you have on Aqua Blu and LTI Grand Azure if you have any... I guess because DS will be 18-month-old then, we are not too worried about the kids' facilities and we don't really want the place to be over-run with lots of older kids as we want a nice, peaceful holiday iykwim. Just want somewhere with nice food, and where we can relax, I can get pampered a little and DH can do a bit of scuba diving ... Thanks!

Hi angel. Skip the Aqua Blu then. It was lovely but busy - great facilities for kids but as you say you don't need that yet - I only mentioned it because I know there are two bedroom family units there. The Grand Azure was also nice - we stayed in a junior suite but that was just one large room. I believe the 'family rooms' have 2 bedrooms.

You probably know this but the Four Seasons has terrific two bedroom/two bath family suites with kitchen and living area. Some open on to a large lawn that is perfect for playing with kids. All have three balconies. Beautiful. Phenomenal resort, but incredibly expensive.

Laguna Vista Beach Resort in Naba Bay has duplex apartments. Hilton Sharks Bay, the Renaissance Golden View in Ras Um El Sid both have 2 bedroom units but I don't know much about them. Of course the best place to do your research is on Tripadvisor. Put the hotel name in the search box top left for reviews and photos or use the forum search box and type 'two bedrooms' or 'separate living room' to read previous posts along similar lines. Apologies if you have already done that!

LTI GRand Azure does family rooms, we had one last year, food was great there but there weren't many english kids her so our DS (then 5) was quite lonely.

angel1976 · 22/05/2009 09:48

Hi,

Thanks for both your messages!

Copycat - I have been using Tripadvisor but you know what it's like when there's thousands of reviews to read and there's always one bad for one good and it all swims in your head after a while! But thanks for the suggestions to use the search, I haven't thought of that and find it very hard just by reading reviews to find out if there are suites or not!

Friendlypizzaeater - Will check out the Grand Azure. I don't think DS will care very much about other kids. LOL!

Might have to resort to a travel agent in the end... Will let you know how I get on! Massive thanks!

No no, don't use a travel agent

angel1976 · 22/05/2009 22:30

Copycat - Believe it or not, DH and I have NEVER used a travel agent in our lives (except to get bargain air tickets!). It's just that having specific requirements seem to throw most sites (most sites just give you double or twin room option and assumes because of DS's age, he will be bunking in with us!). Thanks so much for your offer. I need to speak to DH once he gets back from a stag do this weekend and decide where he wants to go first before I go mad. Might CAT you next week if I am really stuck. Thanks once again for all your suggestions and will have a look at the sites you have recommended very soon.

angel. Yes that's a good point you make about wanting a two bedroom unit with only 2 adults plus 1 baby. I can see why that would be a problem with some online sites. Some websites will give you a choice of room types (with supplements) but probably some will 'chose' the room type for you based on the number of passengers. Chosing a hotel to fit your requirements can be as frustrating as it is fun! When do you plan to go and, can I ask, why have you decided on Sharm? Have you been before?

angel1976 · 23/05/2009 13:08

Copycat... Planning to go in the last two weeks of August as DS has a break from nursery then. No, never been to Sharm... Well, I will be about 28 weeks pregnant with number 2 then and so DH and I want a nice, relaxing break as a last hurray before our lives become hell for the next year. Ha ha. Initially, we were thinking Maldives but honestly, not keen on that 12-hour flight plus mini seaplane/speedboat journey to the resort. And I guess being fairly heavily pregnant, I don't think I want to risk going into premature labour somewhere so remote and far! Looked at Greek islands (I love my holidays there!) but you won't believe how much it is for an all-inclusive place there (were even quoted £16k for a two-week stay at an all-inclusive resort ). It looks like Sharm has a good mixture of really good quality hotels that cater for young ones, some relaxation for me, some scuba diving for DH and the flight time is just about doable for me! Does that make sense???

can I be really cheeky and ask what you think of this?

fab or not?

angel1976 · 23/05/2009 23:17

GossipMonger - Can't see what you posted! Argh! Can you post again? Or at least what you searched for?

Hi angel, ooh yes Sharm is great for scuba and the flight time is not too bad. You are brave going in August - it will be very hot! We have been to Sharm (and Turkey) in August and it stays hot into the evenings too but I'm sure you will be fine relaxing in the shade and the pool. Just make sure your DH keeps you supplied with a steady stream of drinks (non-alcoholic ones of course ).

I wonder what link GossipMonger was trying to post

angel1976 · 24/05/2009 19:38

Copycat - I come from Singapore so heat isn't usually a problem with me! I like heat, I hate the freaking cold here... But I do understand the heat in a desert is of a different sort as well... Fingers crossed DH goes for this!

OP posts:
copycat · 24/05/2009 20:26

Absolutely! I'm sure you will persuade him I love the heat too (we are heading back to hot and sunny Turkey in July) and both DH and I loathe the cold wet British weather. Egypt in August will be a breeze if you are used to the heat in Singapore. Hope you get something booked soon.
