We are off to Clippesby Hall camping next week with our 2 DS' (nearly 4yo & 2yo).

Can anyone recommend any good days out?

(Preferably cheap/free ones as we are scrabbling around for pennies for food and petrol, but really don't want to miss our holiday )

Hi there are loads of things to do around Great Yarmouth and Norwich though I have never heard of clippesby (sorry) If you have time to convert clubcard vouchers plenty of places accept them. There is pettits adventure park in acle which is a good day out. Or go to Wroxham there are many things to do here (Wroxham Barns is lovley lots of craft shops and places to picnic a small pettine farm, quite cheap to enter from what I remember. and a fairground which you have to pay for) If you go there don't but food as very expensive. Worxham itself is lovely to go watch the boats on the broads and there is a little town there. If the weather is nice there is Yarmouth Beach which is free and also am sure there is plenty of parks near there too. For a cheap meal try one of the castle carveries one is in Norwich and the other in caister I think. These have excellent indoor play areas and are dead in the week during term time. They always have offers on food and little ones in highchairs eat free (have seen small 4 year olds in highchairs to get a free meal and the staff don't say anything) Have a lovely time. Hope this has helped a bit

Just round the corner from me

Fairhaven Water Gardens is a nice walk/picnic & they have events on sometimes

Thrigby Wildlife Gardens are nice but expensive & as is Bewilderwood (which is fab for older children....sorry)

The Castle pub at Caister is nice and close to a 'roman' site - which is just a few bumps in a field

If you are around on Sat/Sunday I could take you sailing at Rollesby Broad which is where DD has her boat - DD runs a good line taking small children out and letting them steer her boat she is very good at it

Oh thank you both so much for replying I will have a look at those places. We have sadly cashed in all our clubcard vouchers for food already and I don't think it is looking like beach weather! We will be taking our wellies though.

KatyMac that is a very kind offer, I'm sure the boys would have found sailing a very exciting prospect, but I think we will be travelling back on Saturday (although it could be Sunday, I'm losing the plot)

We're very close to cancelling the whole trip but we have paid for the camping already and I really really want to stay at Clippesby Hall.....

Ooh washer thanks for starting this thread and thanks for the suggestions too. We're going there in aug with our imminent new arrival and some friends and their dc's really looking forward to it. Am bookmarking thread to refer to nearer the time.

Have a great trip!

Well come & have a cup of tea (we are literally minutes away) - my website is on my profile & it has my contact details

My house is set up for small children & there is a covered play area, so if it rains it doesn't matter

We had a holiday in that area with our 4 and 2 yr old a few weeks ago. Lots of nice beaches if the weather's nice, we especially liked Winterton.

If you find yourself in Gt Yarmouth have a look out for a little booklet in those tourist information displays you get stuffed full of leaflets, they have money off vouchers for loads of attractions.

There are lots of nice museums in Yarmouth, Time and Tide Museum was great, you can spend all day in there. The Elizabethan House was cheaper (but can't remember exactly how much) and has lots for children to play with/dress up in etc.

Sea Palling is a lovely beach and there are some nice walks - Hickling has a nature walk

How Hill is very nice

Oulton Broad is a good drive away but there is a nice park there

There is a windmill you can go up at Horsey

Lathams at Potter Heigham is a 'cheap shop' they sell all sorts (esp seconds pottery)

Stalham is a nice little town - good for a wander down the high street & there is a tescos/banks/petrol (about 12 miles away)

Hi Washersaurus, We have booked Clippesby Hall in August (see you there runningmonkey)and we booked it because there looks to be loads to do on site! (playpark, mini golf and treehouses).

We might be really mean but we usually spend less on camping holidays than we do at home. We feel that the campsite is a 'day out' in its own right so we don't feel obliged to take them on lots of days out(other than to municipal parks which are free anyway...look on Norfolk County Council website for details). Our kids love fishing and rockpooling even in the rain and we usually take bats, balls, bikes and art stuff etc. with us. I hope you have alovely time.

runningmonkey · 26/05/2009 11:20

Serin, yes that's why we booked it too and we have the same philosophy altho for us it will be the first trip with a little one. if you see a mushy-pea green camper van, that's us (pic on my profile!). Pop along and say hello!

serin · 27/05/2009 20:40

Very jealous of your campervan runningmonkey, looked on your profile and good luck with your baby
