We have finally managed to get everyones diaries free for a weekend to London - first ever! Have booked tickets for Joseph for Friday night, but apart from that have no idea what we are going to do!

We took my ds for 2 days on his own last year when dd was away with school and did Tower of London, HMS Belfast,Duck Tour and Imperial War museum, all his choice, but this time we are struggling to know how to please them both.

The only thing dd has asked to do is Camden Market - ideas from anyone - please!!!!

Thanks

FiMac

Get a riverboat to Greenwich and do the planetarium and the Naval Museum. The museum is free but you will have to pay for the planetatium/observatory.

Or

you could go to Little Venice and take a canal boat trip along the Regents Canal and incorporate a browse round Camden Market with that.

Also

Covent Garden is very good for general browsing around shops and market plus lots of 'street theatre' thrown in. Think there is a transport museum there too?

Why Camden Market specifically? Is dd into gothy stuff?

Directskiandsun · 12/05/2009 10:13

DH took DS1 to London when he was 10. He loved the London Eye, which we pre-booked, and also the Tower of London. Another vote for Covent Garden - we went on a Sunday morning when there seemed to be a lot of jugglers, acrobats etc - fun for most ages I'd think

All - many thanks

dd not really that Goth although quite 'original' with her dress sense!,friend who is a Goth has recommended it - although when I checked earlier on their website I don't really think its 'her', she's more TopShop'ish, clothes and shoes - slightly off the norm are her thing, areas in London for this sort of clothes shopping would be appreciated!

Get to St Pauls and walk across the bendy bridge (as we call it). Globe Theatre to the left, Tate Modern on the right. You don't have to go into either to get a sense, but I'd nip them into Tate Modern - even if you don't want to go round as the Turbine Hall is huge, free and it's worth seeing what's in there. Then walk along river to Westminster - you'll go past the London Eye at the end. Loads of London and lots of buskers on the way. It's a truly special walk.

Your DD would love TopShop at Oxford Circus. Might be essential..

DadInsteadofMum · 12/05/2009 13:55

My kids loved the Eye (11,9, & 5 when we last went in it) another vote for Covent Garden, kids love the street entertainers and the standard is generally high.

Yes Top Shop for your dd. Or Portobello Market - less grungy than Camden

IMO London Dungeon, Tussauds and all that other tat should be avoided at all costs. Do you want to spend 2 hours in a queue?

Molesworth · 12/05/2009 14:53

Definitely avoid Camden Market then - it's goth hell, extremely busy and all the stalls sell the same (goth) stuff!

I recommend Brick Lane for quirky market stalls and vintage clothes shops.

i second brick lane and spittlefields market.
potobello rd is also cool.
