We have finally managed to get everyones diaries free for a weekend to London - first ever! Have booked tickets for Joseph for Friday night, but apart from that have no idea what we are going to do!

We took my ds for 2 days on his own last year when dd was away with school and did Tower of London, HMS Belfast,Duck Tour and Imperial War museum, all his choice, but this time we are struggling to know how to please them both.

The only thing dd has asked to do is Camden Market - ideas from anyone - please!!!!

Thanks

FiMac

Science or Natural History Museum, both shoudl enjoy. Covent Garden for lunch or tea your dd shoudl certainly enjoy and your ds woudl enjoy the street entertainers. London Eye also good to do. maybe wander along the South Bank to Tate Modern if that's anyone's cup of tea? Maybe an open top bus tour? Would your dd enjoy Oxford Street, or Carnaby Street? Soho for chinese at some point?

Am impressed with the number of things you did last year in two days!!! Well done you!

Have you been to the Imax before? Theres loads of places to eat round there afterwards as well - Wagamama, Giraffe etc.

Have you done all round the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey?

They have just done up the aquarium on the south bank as well havent they but I suppose you can go to tone of them anywhere...

London Zoo?

I think Tate Modern is a great space. Walk across wobbly bridge for St Pauls too or over to The Globe theatre.
Portobello market. Borough market for lunch and the atmosphere.
National Portrait Gallery.
British Museum for some mummies and anglo-saxon treasure.

Teenagers seem to love this place, it's quite gruesome.

And on a similar note

If you go to Camden it's quite a nice walk up the canal (or you can take a boat) past London Zoo and on to Little Venice.

Museums - British M for mummies, Science Museum and Natural hist both good for this age group - some cool stuff there too.

Your dd would certainly love Camden market (I agree with DWP - the canal is good too for a walk), and Oxford St Primark (near Marble Arch tube) if you can bear the pain - also Topshop Oxford circus (I have children similar age and sometimes we see eg a museum together, then teen dd and I do shops whilst dh and ds do something else)

Tower of London good (but more pricey), nearby St Catherines Dock nice to walk round

St Pauls - again not cheap but if you like heights you can to to top of dome; the Monument recently reopened and also good views

Oh and of course the London Eye, you can pre-book

Thanks so much for such wonderful advice, have printed this thread off and start planning - any ideas for Pre-Theatre restaurants? We are in the Strand, Adelphi Theatre

Thanks all again

Portobello Road Market is only really Saturdays - Notting Hill Gate tube.

Spend some time in one of the parks (Regents, St James's, Green, or Hyde) -- I used to find London really exhausting, but once I discovered there were such peaceful places in the centre, my psychic impression of the place changed for the better. Regents and Hyde Parks have rowboats.

Go and stand in the audience at the Globe for £5 each. Even if you only stay for an hour rather than the whole thing, you've still seen that marvellous building, seen part of another show, and not cost much. London Bridge tube.
