After years of going to lovely secluded (I'm BORED Mum!) houses for hols the kids (ages 10,8 and 6) are getting their way this year and we are going to go try a holiday village - France or Spain - gite or small house in a development..with a kids club..Anyone got any good suggestions?? But not camping..not ready for that yet!

Have a look at the pierre vacances website, or there is always center parcs europe.

shinners07 · 11/05/2009 16:07

A second vote for Pierre et Vacance - we went to their village at Esterel in Cote d'Azur a few years ago. Very nice, although the 1-bedroom apartment was tiny. They had a kids' club, choice of about six restaurants, lovely swimming pool.

Although you say you're not up for camping, would you consider a mobile home on a campsite? We've been with Thomson Al Fresco a couple of times and their mobiles are really nice - proper showers, air conditioning, nice deck to sit out on, somewhere to plug in your hairdryer and all very IKEA style decor.

this looks lovely

Thanks Choppy - dh is "thinking " about the mobile home - he hasn't ruled it out He is 6ft 3 and imagines that he will be ducking his head for two weeks! The Pierre Vacances places look lovely - thanks for the advice...and they seem to be running a 20% off if you stay two weeks offer - just type 8258 into the promo code box. Any more ideas just to totally confuse me?

6'4" and never had a problem in a mobile home (getting in and out yes as the doorways tend to be a bit short - but fine once in)

Thanks Dadinstead- I have shown your posting to dh!

It's probably booked up already but when we were here

www.camping-la-garangeoire.com/en/index_en.htm

last year I noticed they had a couple gites/farmhouses for rent in the grounds too

shinners07 · 13/05/2009 22:47

Thanks Grapefruit that looks really nice - the pictures show lots of (happy) kids playing sports together - do you know if they have an organised kids club ?

Yes they do have their own one (Keycamp et al also run clubs themselves). They have a purpose-built room for things like craft activities and also organise special things like taster pony riding sessions. We only used it a couple of times tbh as there was so much else to do and the weather was great so we went to the beach a lot.

The fishing/boating lake was a big hit with most kids, there are tennis courts and archery and a horse riding centre too so plenty to keep them all occupied with minimal input from parents!

Megeve in France in the Alps is fab, especially if you dont like it too hot. The air is great and there is loads to do, swimming, walking, tennis, iceskating , horse riding, paragliding. etc. We stayed in an apartment which was small but cheap, however, there are some reasonalby priced hotels in Megeve.

We went to Les Restanques de StTropez with pierre et vacances. Was fab.
