I am dusting off the straw from my clothes (live in Wiltshire, oo arr) and considering a shopping trip. If it's a nice day, I'd like to walk from Paddington through Bayswater, across Hyde Park towards Harrods. Can any nice MNers advise me how long this is likely to take?

Also... what shoes can I wear? Need to be comfy but not too yokel-ish.

TIA.

Are you intending to shop on the way or march as quickly as you can to Harrods?!

spicemonster · 09/05/2009 12:38

Half an hour or so if you walk briskly. Flat loafer type shoes? They seem to be very popular worn with ironed jeans among the Harrods shopping set

GypsyMoth · 09/05/2009 12:40

jeans in Harrods? is that allowed?

lol,i'm sure it must be in this century.

May get sidetracked in Bayswater... (is there still a Ghost shop in Manchester Square ?) ...but the original intention was to walk briskly to Harrods - and indulge in some seriously overpriced but luxuriant retail therpay and maybe an equally ridiculously overpriced hot chocolate / coffee!

Thanks for the loafer tip, spicemonster. I have some ancient red/green/blue Russell & Bromley jobbies which were a popular look in the 80s, I recall! (Suspect they're best left in the garden in Wilts though.)

I'd say go to Selfridges myself, but maybe it would be a bit too happening for a yokel in ironed jeans and loafers

Sigh, I used to know South Molton Street like the back of my hand (before I had a mortgage!)

There is a great website that gives you everything you need to know about walking in London:

www.walkit.com

What a great website, thanks Science teacher! It calculated that it will take me 33 mins at a medium pace.
