Thomson Al Fresco Holidays - anyone been on one?

Was looking on the website and these seem like quite good value for money.

Has anyone been on one? If so, which country/park would you recommend, did you stay mostly on site/if you flew how did you get from the airport to the site? and any other advice/comments would be appreciated.

TIA

I think Nutty has been to the Salou one and is going again in a couple of weeks.

TwoToTango · 08/05/2009 17:10

Thanks Fimbo - will keep bumping.
they look like good value for money but wondered if the cost of flights/hire care would bump the price up too much.

We stayed at Sanguli resort in Salou. It's self catering mobile homes but was perfect for us as we wanted the freedom to do what we liked when we liked.

The site itself is fab, several pools to choose from, and great entertainment in the ampitheatre.
Beach over the road, and a short bus ride to the town centre. Bus ride to Port Aventura was about 20 min.

We booked with Thomson Alfresco, but you can book direct with the park or with Siesta I think.

We want to go back again.

....Thomson Al Fresco have caravans on many of the same sites as Eurocamp, Keycamp, Camping Life, Canvas etc.

However they seem to be the most expensive of these package providers.

You do get a patio heater, though.....

...it is worth checking the camp's own websites, and pricing up flights/ferries separately. I did this last year, to a Breton 'Yelloh!' camp that we had used twice previously through eurocamp. Booking direct was cheaper by some hundreds of pounds, without any perceptible loss of service....

NervousNutty · 08/05/2009 17:32

Yes me, I did lol.

We went Salou as posted below. We flew from Birmingham to Reus and then got a taxi from the airport to the site, about 10/15 min away.

For some of their sites they do transferrs if it is further away.

We didn't hire a car as I don't drive.

Oh we flew with ryainair and flights were around £700 for 5.

The first time we went was in school time so accomodation was only about £350, but this time we are going in whit week so it was about £700, but we have had a larger caravan this time.

As retiredgoth said, you probably could book it cheaper through someone else, and we did look into that this time but decided aginst it as we had not one single complaint about the holiday last time, the Thomson staff on the site were all really friendly and helpful and the accomdation was lovely, so we have stuck with what we know.

TwoToTango · 08/05/2009 17:41

Thanks Nutty thats really helpful - did you stay on site? How much did a tax cost? I couldn't see anything about transfers on the website, do you have to ring up to enquire?

What time of year did you go - I was thinking of going either 1st week in Sept or whitsun next year - is there plenty to do if the weathers not too good or is a mostly based around the pools being outdoors?

Thanks for the info

Hi sorry to drop in but have just been looking at the Mumsnet page about Thomson Al Fresco hols and wondered if anyone knows how much the ferry or Eurostar would be approximately?

DH is set on holidaying in the UK again this year but I would love to do something different and their prices seem very reasonable. (Can't fly cause he won't... long story )

TIA

Nicky

We stayed on site yes, ours was Sanguli, Costa Dorada.

Do you have a brochure ?? In there it will show which parks do transfers. I don't think it says on the site, not sure.

We went in early Sept and the weather was lovely. It was always warm enough to walk round in t'shirts/shorts etc and go in the sea/pools. A couple of the days were baking hot.

We hadn't expected there to be any entertainment or anything on when we went as it was out of seasons but there was something every night. It was mostly mini discos and things for the kids, but they also did a production of CATS one night which was fab. There was also a kids club but we didn't use it. On the site we went to the entertainment is held in a huge ampitheatre which is brilliant.

We used the pools alot and the beach which was over the road from the complex. We also took the bus into Salou and went round the shops, and for a day out we went to portaventura theme park.

Err what else ? Oh taxi, i think was about 30 euros from airport to site. Not cheap considering how close we were tbh.

Oh eating out. On our site, there was a resturant and a take-away. We didn't use the resturant as we found one right on the beach that we liked which was cheaper.
We did use the take-away one night and that was fine, we just had pizza and chips.

I have never been to any of their other sites but we had a fab time and have recomended it to alot of people and can't wait to go again.

NervousNutty · 08/05/2009 17:50

nix - I think ferry travel is included in the price quoted for the holiday. I will hunt my brochure out and check.

TwoToTango · 08/05/2009 17:52

Thanks for that nutty - i've ordered a brochure, just waiting for it to arrive.

NervousNutty · 08/05/2009 17:54

No sory I was weong, the ferry travel isn't included. I think I was getting them confused with another company.

TwoToTango - Have found my brochure so if you want any more infor on a particular parc, like if they do transferrs, then give me a shout and I can have a look.

racmac · 08/05/2009 18:07

Not sure about Thompson but they have same sites as Eurocamp and Keycamp and we always find these great value

May half term week - caravan in Brittany for 6 nights and ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff - we have paid £477.00 for 3 bed caravan - booked caravan with Keycamp and ferry direct with Brittany ferries.

nix66 · 08/05/2009 19:46

Thanx for the info, nutty will also have a scout around at Keycamp/Eurocamp.
