What's the deal about liquids on flights?

I had a look at the BA website but it's not entirely clear. What can I take on to the flight? What if I want to buy water and take it on the flight? Can I take water through baggage check or do I have to buy it air side? I was thinking of taking some rescue remedy with me, I assume I can't take it in my hand luggage. I'm confused! Help!

Think there is a 100ml restriction, so no you can't take a bottle of water on board. You would need to buy a drink on the plane. I had a 200ml can of hairspray and wasn't allowed it in my hand luggage - had to put it in the suitcase.

Thanks

If the original container is 100ml or less, you can take it in hand luggage, in a clear plastic resealable bag (think ziploc type thing, though some airports are fussier than others and I've gone through with a freezer bag. ) See here for more on EU regs.

Oh, and if you buy water before going through security, drink it - they won't let you through and you'll have to buy more airside. I've seen a person buy Coke from a machine within the view of security and have it taken off them. Grr.

You're not allowed to take it through security. You can however buy yourself a bottle of water etc in one of the shops after you have gone through security and before you have boarded the plane.

cross-post (too busy chatting to dh instead of finishing my post )

Thanks, so I can probably take my rescue remedy on board, I'll check how much it is. Must remember to get bags tomorrow

Am stupidly excited about my trip! Leave on Saturday

A quick glance at the Rescue Remedy site suggests their products are in containers small enough to be OK for hand luggage. Enjoy your trip.

You are now allowed to buy water airside to take on the aircraft. It would be confiscated if you were to take it through the security checkpoint befoehand.

If the Rescue Remedy is less than 100ml and is placed in a clear plastic bag for their inspection you will be permitted to bring this through onto the aircraft.

If you have a need for liquids over 100ml, you can get exemption letters.

we had to when flying last year, as the only thing dd1 would drink was a juice that came in 200ml cartons (she is autistic, and it was a 12 hour flight)

was a hassle proving it though, with doctor's letter etc, and then the stuff had to be screened seperately. But it is possible. if necessary.

you can take as much as you like as long as you buy once you've cleared customs, security etc.. boots will sell rescue remedy and water there. I always buy a few litres and take on the plane (long haul)

Though if you are connecting to another flight the rules about buying airside fall down.....and you have to do it all again at the next airport!
