Where do you get the cheapest deals?

When is it quietest?

Are you allowed to take your own food in?

How long will it take to do it all 3 days,4????

Many thanks

No you cant take your own food in - but they have lockers and so therefore you could take a picnic and leave it in the locker, all get stamps on the way out - eat your picnic and then go back in.

You can get cheap deals at travel lodge type places - mary mother of cheese had the details of one of these right by the train line (two stops to disney or you could go the other way into paris, and near the biggest carrefour you ever did see (supermarket)so great for eating or getting picnic food.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 03/05/2009 17:57

how do they know if you have your made out of stolen breakfast bun sandwiches in your bag - do they search you?

Ivykaty44 · 03/05/2009 17:59

sorry I don't know about stolen breakfast

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 03/05/2009 18:02

i have never been but i understand from those who have it is common practise to make up sandwiches from the breakfast buffet for lunch then take them in with you...... so do they check your bag that you have no sandwiches with you?

Ivykaty44 · 03/05/2009 18:27

No idea, never saw any one with a hand bag being searched - but then I didn't take a handbag either as it is not easy to get on a rollercoaster with a handbag as everything including stolen sandwiches would fall out

When I took my dd we stayed room only as I got a deal. Never been savvy enough to nick stuff from a buffett

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 03/05/2009 18:31

i am reliably informed that going b and b is worth the investment as you end up lunch b and b

Ivykaty44 · 03/05/2009 18:34

Not when you work for a large hotel chain and get room only for £10 per night in Paris

amidaiwish · 03/05/2009 18:41

we went to disneyland paris for easter
bags are checked as you enter the park but everyday i went in with water, apples, a few rolls and croissants (from b'fast) etc... never had anyone blink.
they are looking for bombs not bread rolls imo!

was much cheaper to book hotel and eurostar separately btw. rather than all on the disneyland website.

MilaMae · 03/05/2009 18:44

Amid where did you get your passes from?

OP posts:
amidaiwish · 03/05/2009 18:53

the hotel. they were included in the hotel price. we stayed at the New York hotel which is just a few minutes walk to the park, you get access to the park when it is closed (8am-10am when we were there) which was brilliant.

Leslaki · 03/05/2009 19:45

I have stayed at the Newport Bay twice and always 'stole' lunch from the rolls and ham at breakfast - we were never searched! This year I have booked a campsite 15 mins drive from Disney (free through canvas/tesco)and am fully intending to amke up lunches every morning and take them in with us athe food si dreafukl and overpriced. Only exception we re going to amke is a a meal at cafe Mickey cos the kids love the interaction with the characters so much. Every other night we plan to BBQ outside our mobile home!! Cheap n cheerful way of doing it and you escape the hype for a bit!!!

Where is this HUGE Carrefour BTW as I am a fan of Carrefour?!!!

pinkkoala · 04/05/2009 17:26

every time we have been to disney paris, approx 6 times now i have always been stopped and had bag searched, think its more for glass bottles and sharp objects etc, not for food or drink as i always take snacks and drinks.
the carrefour is not far from the disney parks as we have seen it when we drive to the hotel.

We stayed in a hotel in Torcy, just a few stops on the train from DLP - MUCH cheaper than staying anywhere on the park, and really not a hassle. The hotel had a family room of double bed and large double sofabed, plus - and it was a big plus - a fridge, sink/draining board, and some cooking facilities, as well as an en suite shower. Cost about £60 per night and was 5 minutes from the train station that takes you straight into DLP.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 04/05/2009 17:44

Directski, was it the Kyriad hotel? We're staying there.

janeite · 04/05/2009 17:48

Can I hijack slightly please? DD1 is going soon with school and theyve been told to take 10 Euros for each meal they will need to buy. I hope to send her with some snacks for her bag so that she can save a bit of money. Any ideas for things she can take with her that will survive a couple of days in a suitcase? Have thought of raisins and cereal bars so far.

Directskiandsun · 04/05/2009 17:55

MaryMotherofCheeses - no, but it was one of the ones we considered - can't remember why we chose the other.... Probably price though. The Kyriad had good reviews if I remember rightly.

Directskiandsun · 04/05/2009 17:56

janeite - how about some little cartons of fruit juice? Not too heavy to carry one or two in her bag, and they keep without being in a fridge.

pointydog · 04/05/2009 17:59

have fun, milae, we loved it.

yes, jane, pack loads of snacks. We took those wrapped chocolate crepes that the supermarkets do. Light and individually wrapped. Plus cereal bars.

Not only ar snakcs very expensive, they are also crap.

pointydog · 04/05/2009 18:00

have you checked expedia for deals?

We went for 3 nights (pretty much 4 days) and we found that just right to do it all (almost)

janeite · 04/05/2009 18:03

Mmmmm to chocolate crepes.

She is a bit of a salad girl so I expect she will be craving vegetables by the time she gets home!

pointydog · 04/05/2009 18:06

yes, there is no fruit or veg available unless they are part of the hotel meals.

janeite · 04/05/2009 18:07

It sounds like my idea of hell on earth tbh. I bet dd will love it.

OP - sorry for hijack.

At this moment in time (state of the travel industry) I would ensure that you book through a Travel Agent. I booked at Travelcare and got 6 nights at the Sante Fe for the same price as I could book through Disney and do separate flights myself. If you book everything yourself and do it separately you will not have ATOL cover for the whole holiday, only the separate components.

Here's an example. If you booked with Disney direct and booked a separate flight with Air France and the airline went bust (as happened with Excel) then you would only get your money back if you booked with your credit card and that can take months, so you would then have to pay out for other flights in the meantime. If you could not get flights for the dates to co-incide with your dates at Disney, then you would lose your booking as your insurance would not cover you. Book it all through the travel agent and none of these problems will occur, as the whole package would be covered by ATOL and the travel agent would sort everything out for you.

With the state of the travel industry at the moment, its just not worth saving a couple of £ to book yourself. Travel agents give you total financial peace of mind. You get everything included and one for you aswell through the Travel Agent, flights, accomodation, park entrance, transfers and we also booked half board.

Anyway - after the travel lecture :-) I'm off to Disney on 1st June for a week for my lads 4th Birthday and can't wait. We wil be doing what everyone else does and 'making up sandwiches' from the buffet breakfast and buying snacks from the Esso Garage next to the Santa Fe Hotel and taking them into the park with us.
