Are Holidays More Expensive This Year.

We still haven't decided what to do about holidays this year. Just having a quick look about and so far have come up with:

Outer Hebridies - a week self catering in a cottage for 4 between £750-£1000 plus ferry crossings/fuel.

Centre Parcs - a week in middle range accom for 4 £1250-£1400.

London - Train for around £200 perhaps cheaper. B&B in a family room £150 per night.

Euro Disney - Five nights in a Disney Hotel £1600. Transport probably around £300.

Cornwall - Self catering prices similar to Hebridies but we would go for 2 weeks to justify the distance.

Costa Del Sol - Staying in sisters apartment. Flights for 4 around £700 plus car hire around £350.

All of these options are either self catering or B&B so money needed for food on top of spending money. By the time you add in fuel its ridiculous.

MIL's caravan in Anstruther is looking very attractive right now.

Wanted to add we are a family of 4 with boys aged 11 and 4.

If you dont mind can you say how much your holiday is costing.

I would say that holidays - particularly in Europe - seem MUCH more expensive this year.

We're going to Cornwall for a week in the summer holidays and it's costing about £1100 I think, (4* self-catering apartment attached to a hotel).

We could probably have got something a bit cheaper, but there were also plenty of similar holidays costing a lot more.

I've also been tentatively looking at taking my DCs abroad later in the year, perhaps Oct half term, but the prices are, as you rightly say, ridiculous.

We have a timeshare, so it is the cost of the yearly fees and our flights to Las Vegas (we were going to try and go to Europe this year but there was nothing on the horizon - perhaps they are holding on to their timeshares rather than going further afield). The flights for 4 of us are 2000 pounds (sorry the pound sign not working) plus food/spends money, cost of petrol and overnight stay at Gatwick the night before.

Looks like £2k is a realistic amount then. We can afford it but I just dont know if I can justify spending that amount of money. Mind you I do think having time away together is hugely important.
