Malaria Prevention for 13 month old

I have been to the docs today to organise jabs for my son to go to Kenya in July. When I asked about malaria prevention the nurse said I would just have to be careful...

I have just done a little research online and it would seem that there are several options for babies and young children, including "Chloroquine" which is apparently available in syrup form?

Has anyone recently taken a little one to a malaria zone and if so what did you do?

I have also read Malarone Paediatric is safe for children over 11kg (which I am pretty sure DS is or will be!) and would have no problem popping this in a spoonful of jam/yoghurt.

HELP please

We got married at Karen Blixen Coffee Gardens (civil ceremony) in Spetember 2007. Was handy as we lived just up the road. Actually, would have been a disaster if we hadn't as DH forgot his shoes so luckily someone dashed home to get them for him in the nick of time !

My DHs family are originally from Nanyuki but FIL was in the army so moved around a bit (even did a stint training in UK and also as UN peacekeeper in The Balkans). My 2 sisters-in-law live together in Karen and my brother-in-law lives alone somewhere in town.

We are all really looking forward to it - esp DH as he really does miss his family! Unfortunately we are only going for a week as we didn't think we could cope with any longer and DH is a builder so summer is not ideal time for taking holidays!

TM&M - I love the Sarit Centre - that's the one with the massive food court and cinema at the top right? I get confused with that and Yaya! What a great place to live! I did love Karen though as like a small village and always people milling around! I spent half my time in Kenya at the Nakumatt there or the coffee shop outside ! Always saw Mums with young children around but as I was childless at the time, thought it might be a bit odd trying to talk to them!

Will investiage the visa thing... although the Kenyan HC in London are in our bad books atm as we are STILL waiting for DS's Kenyan birth cert (he's 11 months now)!!! So not sure if I should trust them with mine and his passports... DH has Kenyan passport.

Oh how lovely, that is a great wedding venue. We were married at Diani 10 years ago.

Don't even mention time spent on bureaucracy, it has taken me 2 months to register an NGO - each time they keep changing one tiny word on a different document!

at Christiana. Is your dh Kenyan too?

There's blinkin Nakumatts all over the place now, even two opposite each other in the new fancy mall called Westgate.

Yes Nakumatt Karen is my favourite Nakumatt - they do seem to be taking over the place. There were two quite close to each other in Westlands if I remeber correctly...Didn't one burn down recently? DH reads the Kenyan papers online and watches news on YouTube lol.
