Medical and normal insurance for travelling, what are the best deals?

I am going to the states for a week next month and need to buy travel insurance and medical insurance. Are they separate things? Only ever travelled within Europe before so a bit clueless. Anyone know of any good deals?

travel insurance normally comes with medical insurance, and a travel insurance polic that covers the US usually has higher limits because medical care is so expensive there.

If it's only a week, you don't need to spend much, but don't skimp and get something that doesn't have as high medical cover as you can find - £5 or £10 million. It sounds crazy, but things can really mount up, depending on the kind of trip it is. US care is crazily expensive and you don't want something to happen and for you to end up having to fork out for the best care just because you wanted to save £5 before you went.

There are lots of deals that cover Europe and North America combined for a year, so you might want to think about other trips you may take in the next 12 months.
