i get v scared/anxious of trains and the underground. This saturday we are going into london to the zoo. dh saying easier to go by train but i dont want to (my sake really) when you are down by the underground its all hot and crowded and you get banged and no room etc. I havent been to the city for a few years due to these things. Please tell me whats is going to be like with a nearly 3yr old and a 5 month old?!

i hate teh tube and i commute every day. i avoid it wherever possible and do think it is much nicer with small children to go on a bus.

where are you coming from? maybe we can work out a really nice route for you.

Why don't you train & bus?
Tube is fine but if you're not confident don't put yourself through it

Although I am all for public transport and don't own a car, in this particular case you may be better off driving. Parking around the zoo is fairly plentiful (on street meters). There is no tube station near the zoo so you come into Baker Street and then take a bus.

Tube is difficult with a pushchair. I don't like taking the children on it really, although it's possible.

Parking at London Zoo is expensive but reasonably plentiful.

walk along canal from paddington station- very chilled and pretty. however my kids love the tube (8 and 4) we don't come to London often but its very exciting when we do, have just spent 2 days n and off more tubes than you could shake a stick at with no problems at all, buggy was a bit of a pain at times but in my experience people always give you a hand with it if you look helpless enough

If there are two adults going with a baby and a toddler I can't see the problem. People are generally nice in off-peak periods.

You can check the escalators, steps, etc. on route. Some stations are easier than others.

get the bus, trafics not too bad on a saturday, your ds will have lots to see and its much easier than getting the buggy up and down the stairs!

Rebeccaj · 24/04/2009 12:00

On a saturday the tube won't be that busy. It shouldn't be hot either as the forecast is cool and rain!

However, there isn't a tube very near the Zoo. You'll probably end up on a bus anyway, especially if it's raining. Where are you coming from?

I wouldn';t put yourself through the ordeal of tube. if you drive, you can park up by primrose hill (free parking on weekends), and walk through park to london zoo
