We go on our sun hol to Seton Sands this weekend and it looks like rain is forecast. Did want to goto the Zoo, is it ok in the rain? We have a 3yo.

I've just moved from edinburgh, had a year pass for the Zoo and used to go in all weathers. However apart from the monkey house, chimp house and a couple of other things most stuff isn't undercover and even the stuff that is you have to walk a fair way between them. Worth going, just take waterproofs, at least it won't be as crowded!

My kids liked Dynamic earth too, or the Scottish Museum (although if memory recalls they're doing work on that at moment), my dd is also 3yo. If weather's good then The Botanics are great. My 2 spent ages in Princes street gardens, in the play area, running on grass or watching the trains go under the clear bridge, they toot if you wave. The Meadows have a fantastic play area too.

If it really is rainy and miserable and you're still stuck for stuff to do there's Deep Sea World located just over the Forth Road Bridge, or the commonwealth pool which has a toddler pool and a good soft play area.

Have fun!

just remembered another, Yellowcraigs beach is great if weather OK.

We did Edinburgh Zoo in cagoules in torrential rain one October, it was fab as DD & I almost had the place to ourselves, and the only animals we didn't get a good look at were the big cats

BexieID · 22/04/2009 12:34

Thanks. Weather couldn't be any worse than Blackpool last October, although we did have a couple of good days.

Princes St gardens sounds good, that is near the shops? My b/day on sunday .

dunbar swimming pool is good fun. wave machine, slides etc. and lovely location.

muddleduck · 22/04/2009 12:42

we had a day out in edinburgh last year with a 1 year old and a 3 year old. It poured with rain all day and the national museum was a lifesaver - full of stuff for kids (especiall boy stuff like cars rockets etc). It is right in the centre of Edinburgh, walking distance from Princes street gardens, which is right next to the shops and also near the castle.

Now that sounds like a plan for one day and the Zoo for the other day! Sorted. Now need to think about places to eat, lol.

Tatties · 22/04/2009 13:27

There's still loads to see in the museum though, my ds (just 4) loves it

muggglewump · 22/04/2009 13:38

If you go to the Zoo, make sure you get tickets for close encounters It's the best bit.

hmmSleep · 22/04/2009 15:26

ooh yes Heinzsight, camera obscura is fab!

BexieID · 22/04/2009 17:27

Forgot about Camera Obscura - I love Photography! Given me a few things to think about, thanks.
