Legoland - how easy it is to...

...get into Windsor from Legoland? Am going tomorrow with a 3 and 5 year old, and want to find somewhere for tea before we had back to Essex. Was thinking somewhere like Pizza Express, but will it be a nightmare getting into Windsor at 5pm? Is there any parking?

Thanks!

have only been once (never again) and it took about 90 mins to get out of the car park

I would take a picnic tbh

CarGirl · 19/04/2009 21:01

There are quite a few pubs Beefeater type places but I would go with a packed tea just in case. However most are back at school tom so it may be okay?

AllBuggiedOut · 19/04/2009 21:02

Jesus! Am taking picnic lunch and wanted proper evening meal...

If you are leaving at the same time as everyone else, then there will be a queue getting out of Legoland into Windsor. If you simply want Pizza Express rather than Windsor itself, then it is much quicker to turn right out of Legoland and then go to the Pizza Express in Sunningdale or Staines. Parking is easy at both those places.

Parking in Windsor is a nightmare and expensive. I avoid taking the car into Windsor.

ComeOVeneer · 19/04/2009 21:04

Windsor is a big "No-no" especially at that time.

AllBuggiedOut · 19/04/2009 21:09

That's helpful, thanks. What about Slough? Sunningdale and Staines are the wrong direction for getting home.

Are you going back to Essex on the M25? If so, Staines has its very own junction (J13).

Slough would involve having to turn left out of Legoland, which you really want to avoid.

AllBuggiedOut · 19/04/2009 21:15

Yes, am M25-ing, will look again at Staines, ta.

You would be better off going into Ascot or turning right out of Legoland and then right at a roundabout signposted Maidenhead. It has a Pizza Express and is close to J8 of M4 so not far to get to M25.

If you leave at 5pm and turn left you will be in one long traffic jam towards Windsor.

MollieO · 19/04/2009 21:17

Local schools go back tomorrow but independents are later in the week so it will be busy. We went at the beginning of the holidays (when local schools still at school) and would have been stuck in a huge traffic jam had we turned left.

we usually end up eating at the restaurant in legoland, on the way out. it's not bad! quite a large variety, and you get to sit on the terrace overlooking the estate. quite fun. and it's open later than the rest of the park, and the kids get mini lego toys with their meals.

GoodbyeClement · 19/04/2009 21:20

and then you are leaving the park after the main rush as well. win win.

AllBuggiedOut · 19/04/2009 21:30

OK, so on no account must we turn left out of Legoland, and will check out the restaurant as it might be worth a visit. Helpful, thanks.

Any tips on when to get there? I'd thought leave Essex v early (7.30 ish) in the hope of arriving for 10. DH has said he thinks we should leave it later and aim to get there for 11ish.

The best time to arrive is about 15 minutes before the park opens, so around 9.45am.

GoodbyeClement · 19/04/2009 21:38

if it's hot tomorrow take a change of clothes, possibly even towels, as there are water fountains that the kids may want to play under. and have fun of course1

AllBuggiedOut · 19/04/2009 21:58

Will do, thanks. Am very excited!

I agree - hats, towels and change of clothes. Weather forecast for this part of Surrey is 18-19 degrees and sunny!

Mspontipine · 19/04/2009 23:39

ComeOVeneer you so do warrant that title. Your cakes are so stunning I wanted to cry.
You should be very very proud of yourself xx

We were there today and 3 other days this half term having bought an annual pass!!! Don't leave at park closing time as there are queues to get out - we queued ( moving slowly rathger than stationary) for about 30 mins . I don't know about getting into windsor afterwards but I woudl tend to think "no" as kids would be very tired by thetn and probalby wouldn't cope with another journey however quick and then wait in restuarant.

Why not eat onsite? There are plenty of eateries or take a picnic? WE take a picnnic each time and kids never go home starving. You can bulk it out with cold pasta and tuna salad etc which is more of a meal.

hope you enjoy it!

ComeOVeneer · 20/04/2009 09:47

Thanks (but (whispers) I think you are on the wrong thread! ).

AllBuggiedOut · 21/04/2009 14:16

Thanks all - we did eat on site in the end which wasn't as bad as I'd expected, and the car park was almost empty when we left at 7pm. Still queuing to the left as you leave, though, so turn right was good advice, thanks!
