I am planning a day out tomorrow with my camera, do mumsnetters have any favourite photspots. Could be just over the border of the surrounding counties.

Bit of cliche but what about heading to Purbeck? Corfe Castle, Studland and Old Harry Rocks, Swanage?

twinsetandpearls · 13/04/2009 09:03

No problem with cliches. We actually have not been to Old Harry Rocks

In Studland there's a pub called the Bankes Arms, next door is a National Trust car park. From there it's a nice walk along the cliffs towards Old Harry (will be busy today though).

kimmeridge is lovely.

as is lulworth......and the old abandoned village at lulworth is really interestig to walk around before going on the walk down to the beahc area for pics.

twinsetandpearls · 13/04/2009 09:31

Yes we love Lulworth, have never been to Kimmeridge either, there are just so many nice places to go to.

Have been to Studland, is my favourite for a day out but have never done the walk on the cliffs.

The swanage steam railway can add atmosphere to a shot of Corfe.

Have a lovely day. I'd be if I wasn't actually house-sitting in Poole at this very moment

Durdle Door is a good photospot (and you get exercise too).

twinsetandpearls · 13/04/2009 10:21

We know durdle door, we carried a huge wicker picnic hamper from the car park at the top all the way down to the beach and then back up.

Just realised I have spelt Dorset wrong! We are spoilt with places to go. We are heading to swanage and Old Harry and will judge the traffic.

Are you in Dorset, TS? If so, you are a very lucky lady.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 13/04/2009 12:39

The abandoned village is Tyneham and the road over the hills is fantastic, the view across the sea to Portland is wonderful. And then you can drive to Kimmeridge.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 13/04/2009 12:41

Also North along the top raod to Shaftesbury from Blandford when you get near to Shaftesbury the valleys are amazing.

MargaretMountford · 13/04/2009 12:42

go to Ringstead Bay - great views over to Portland and the other way towards White Nothe...if you climb up the coastal path from there towards White Nothe there is the teeniest little wooden church perched on the cliff edge

twinsetandpearls · 13/04/2009 16:37

We went to Swanage and Corfe castle as dd was only out for a few hours. About to go out again with dd and the dog.

Thanks for the other suggestions, I think dp has negotiated another day off as I am a bit delicate this week so we may try out your ideas.

Check out the beach restrictions for dogs.

We were in the Lulworth area last summer, which is very dog friendly. My research suggested that any nice sandy beach was off limits to dogs in the summer season (I was going to say dogs in season, but that might have been misinterpreted - check out when 'summer' begins). I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have been welcome at Swanage.

I'm assuming that you are not going to be lying on the beach, so the Lulworth area would be great this time of year. The walk to Durdle Door is lovely, spectacular. The other direction from Lulworth (east) is weekends only as it is MOD property with active tank firing (we heard them when we were there).

If you go to Lulworth, there is a large car park, leading to toilets (you can tell I am a mum) and a little museum about the Jurassic Coast (you can tell I am a teacher). The cove is amazing to geologists - you can see lots of different rock types and just sense the upheaval and erosion. Use your imagination for a beach - it is a very narrow band of pebbles. The hinterland offers a couple of souvenir shops and a pub with a large garden (which I can recommend).

Hi twinset, if you are near East Dorset, try Hengistbury Head/Mudeford Spit. Hope you are feeling better soon.

twinsetandpearls · 13/04/2009 23:37

Yes sciencteacher in season lots of beaches are closed to dogs which is fair enough I guess. We didnt take him today.

We love Lulworth and have been many times, today was only our second Swanage visit and it ws delighful. Lots of photo opportuntities including morris dancers.

We took the dog for a long walk in the woods when we got back to make up for leaving him behind.
