Holiday in Egypt at 16 weeks pregnant!

Hello,

I recently found out that i am pregnant, 5 weeks to be exact, but we have booked our summer holiday already and feel a little nervous about going away.

We are going to Egypt for 2 weeks in June. I will be 16 weeks by time we go.

Has anyone been on holiday whilst pregnant? Any advice or tips on how to get through 2 weeks in the sun?

just be extra careful about the dairy products and other possible listeria foods?

otherwise just have a nice time

This might sound silly, but what about the sun rays on my tummy?

Yeah, you'll be fine.

A super tip though, take a bottle of that anti bacterial hand gel and use it EVERY time you touch their money as it's filthy!

Stay under the shade and drink plenty of water. Go in and out the pool all the time to keep yourself cool and don't allow yourself to overheat.

Stick to foods that are obviously thoroughly cooked.

I went to egypt when I was 5 months pregnant and I had a great time. You just have to be extra careful about the food and water. Make sure everything is cooked thoroughly and only drink bottled water. Definitely cover from the sun more. Use high factor sun cream and light cotton clothes. oH and be careful with taxis- we found a good driver and used him through out our holiday- some are maniacs.

Thank you, really appreciate that!

Don't have ice cubes in drinks - they will probably be made from tap water.

Avoid anything you can't wash, peel or eat cooked. Make sure meat and fish are cooked all the way through and avoid shellfish.

Use high factor sunscreen and bear in mind your skin may become patchy instead of tanning.

Use insect repellent liberally and cover up at dawn and dusk.

Drink gallons of water on the flight, move around as often as you can and think about wearing flight socks.

Relax

not sure how true this is but I have been told never to eat salad abroad as it can lead to food poisoning- again I am not sure how true it is and I have never experienced it abroad.

You never eat salads in certain countries as if it has been washed it would have washed in tap water.

hf128219- that makes sense! And to think I have been wondering for many years about this- how dumb do I feel!
