am meeting cousins and there'll be 6 or 7 kids and the forecast is possible showers... we are open to any suggestions especially those that don't cost a fortune - not sure I fancy Twin Lakes or am i just pre-judging and being picky? Any ideas anyone?

Twin lakes is fine for a few hours. My girls loved it when they were a bit younger. The plus is it has a huge indoor play area if it does chuck it down.
beware however if you are going through Melton on a Tuesday as it's market day and did take forever. see if you can get to it from the twin lakes side

the website put me off with its raucous music ad garish colours - I didn't even get to the bit about admission costs - is it much? Off to google access from Nottingham avoiding Melton (thanks for the tip)

I think Twin lakes with 6 or 7 kids is the perfect place. Take a picnic to cut down on costs. My DD spent all day there today with her Aunty and had a ball.

If it is really rainy then admitidly it gets very busy indoors. But if its nice there is loads of space to run around.

Which way will you becoming into Melton as Market day combined with the Easter holidays = gridlock!

Have a nice day

If trying to avoid Melton put Scalford into your Sat nav to avoid the town. Twin lakes is on the back road to Scalford.

Twinlakes FAB. About £10 per person. A little rough round the edges in some places but TBH the play facilities are ace - our cousins will have a ball. What ages are they?

You also have a couple of farm type places. There is one in East leake (just south of nottingham) and one on the North side of Nottingham (soo probably wrong direction) which looks good. Can't remember the name though.

Perfect ages. The 12yo will probably be too old to go "alone" IYSWIM...but I have taken 15yo's before and when in the company of younger children they have as much fun as the rest of them. In fact you will find the 12yo pretty helpful as the little ones can need some assistance to get round some of the courses.

Check on the website about height restrictions. As far as play area's are concerned "The Labyrinth" is essential (little ones should be tall enough for the Labyrinth with accompanyment - which is where the 12yo comes in handy ). in fact I would head there first - it is at the far side of the park so people that wander through and get there in the afternoon restrict their time there.

Deffo take picnic. Food is a bit "greasy MacDs". There are pleny of indoor picnic tables to eat at in the indoor areas.

Oh and Falconry is worth seeing.

Ferret racing is also good if you are in the right place at the right time.

Farm - well it is a far really....smelly pigs anddonkeys and stuff. Younger ones will like it but TBH the play areas are much more fun.

thanks Sllightly mad We had a fab time no rain, fast ferrets, 12 yo was great and cousins and I just sat and chatted and drank tea. Rides great our smallest one was just tall enough if she stretched up high! I had to go on the unfeasibly slow uppy downy horses - great. Less fun was the lying dow nrocket ride where neither f us liked it and I could only stop the 'but I want to get off, I don't LIKE it' by speculating on what would happen if either of us 'did a windypop' on the ride and what would the people behind us think. THis appealed to her toilet sense of humour and she laughed and laughed for the rest of the ride!
It wasn't too busy and was small enough to feel safe to let them have a bit of freedom. THAnks for the comments
