I'd go to London for a couple of days. V&A, afternoon tea, a show, the cinema, a mooch around the galleries etc.

Or Edinburgh.

geordieminx · 01/04/2009 20:30

Where are you now, what sort of budget? Are you wanting to go away or have days out from home? What sort of things is she into?

Beetroot · 01/04/2009 20:32

we will be in edinburgh for the festival in August
London good but we are often there and she is not into shoppin

would like sun
but cheap cheap
and have never spent this much time alone with her - is a weird thought

Newcastle? York? Lakes? Liverpool? Dublin? Belfast?

What about ferry to Amsterdam from Newcastle?

Beetroot · 01/04/2009 20:36

not sure what we would do in cities

she is active, hates travelling by car

Somewhere like newcastle you could go to centre of life, baltic art muesum thing, see a show, get the train out to the coast and go to st marys lighthouse/sea life centre, wet n'wild, open top bus

Lakes - walking, cycling horse riding, sightseeing, museums, afternoon tea,

Whereabouts in uk are you?

Beetroot · 01/04/2009 20:52

we are SW.
South Shields is fab isn't it

geordieminx · 01/04/2009 20:56

There is loads to do in the north east that doesnt involve shopping although it is a bit of a hike from the SW.

I think the ferry to Amsterdam from north sheilds is about £90 pp for a private cabin and bathroom for 2 nights?

geordieminx · 01/04/2009 21:25

I would just look to see where you can get cheap flights - any major city is going to have the same sort of things to do.

Beetroot · 01/04/2009 21:25

youcan get s direct train from the SW to Newcastle, often v chep tickets if you book ahead.

i regularly travel york to cheltenham for £12..think toon to chelt can be £17 if you book ahead.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 01/04/2009 21:41

Venice will be heaving. I first went at 12yo and my arse was pinched black & blue, especially on the water taxi things (wtf are they called?).

Verona better. Or Barcelona/Madrid.
