Hi, We haven't been on holiday since our honeymoon 6 years ago.
We now have a 4 year old daughter and would love to go to the lake district. I don't know if it's really suitable for a 4 year old though.
She loves the great outdoors, but could we really relax and enjoy it too?
She also loves the tales of Beatrix potter. She has them all on audeo CD and listenes to them at bed time. I know there is an attraction there which she will love.
She's never been on holiday before so I'm a bit undecided.
Have any of you been? where did you stay ? Was it good?
I'd be really greatfull for any advice.

National Trust in the Lakes

this page lists attractions

It is a lovely area but gets very crowded at peak times.

We stay in holiday cottages (2 beds are quite cheap) and then it's easy to get everything washed and dry again if it's rainy. As others have said, the combination of walking and NT things (if you're a member) makes for a really good and cheap holiday. We took ours (4 and 18m then) to Brantwood (on Coniston) last October and had a really lovely walk round the gardens, it's all wooded with lots of little corners. Also there's a brilliant cafe there, cheap cheerful and child friendly, which does the most yummy breakfasts - we went twice last time. You can stay there too, I'll go and see if I can find a link... back in a sec. Our 4yo managed the walk round Tarn Hows easily, and there was an ice cream van in the car park, which made her day.

One more tip = the obvious Lake District places can be expensive, but if you stay around the edges (we were near ulverston the last time) it's a lot more reasonable.

this page says the same, AF

??????

Special offer yesterday? You had the nicest smiles so they let you in free?

Brockhole (the Visitor Centre) is a great day out & has loads of organised activities in the school holidays

ponders, not doubting you love

just saying, only yesterday it was gratis

the only charge was if you wanted a booklet thingy for £2.50

no special offers, the roadsign on the main road through Windermere also says free admission

as does the sign outside the venue

believe me, we would not have entered the premises otherwise, since my kids are 13 and 9, so slightly too old for Mrs Puddleduck! (it was raining)

Don't knock the pencil museum - on a wet day it is one of the best attractions in Keswick

Www.cottages4you.co.UK has some affordable places to stay. We were considering the laks district for next year.
