I apologise in advance as I am going to post this thread on a few different topics as I can?t decide where is best!!! Looking to go away with 2 young children camping to North West Scotland (Fort William, Mull etc) but am worried about the midges.
When is best to go / avoid?
Thank you

I don't know if you've had responses on your other posts, but May/June will be not-too-bad, July and especially August will be hell on earth. The midges hunt you down in packs at that time of year.

Stay AWAY from the long grass.

Are you mad? Midges and rain!

Seriously, they start mid May when they are really fierce (hungry after that big sleep!). We find they are not so bad by July, August but to be honest it depends on weather. Evening and mornings are always worst so take lots of Jungle Formula.

Also meant to mention that most of the big campsites have these midge eating machines which is bound to help!

Try East Coast rather then West - really not so bad. Or Tiree where the wind blows them all away .
