La Ramblas Barcelona - is it a safe area?

Planning a visit to barcelona and see that La Ramblas is the main street - Wikipedio says its full of drug addicts, prostitutes and not policed very well. Is this accurate? I imagined it being the same hustle and bustle as Picadilly circus, less traffic maybe. Would love to hear what its really like. Thanks.

I've only been once but Las Ramblas is absolutely fine! As with any busy city you can get pickpockets etc but as long as you don't act in a way that screams 'I'M A HELPLESS TOURIST -- PLEASE MUG ME' then you will have a fab time

It's pedestranised so the only traffic is at the top or bottom of the street. Don't put your bag on the floor if you have a drink or your mobile/camera on a table but really it's the usual common sense rules as you'd use in any major city. The marina is nice too.

You might see some dodgy people on the metro.... again this isn't unique to Barcelona.

Tis great but take plenty of money as museums etc charge unlike lots in the UK.

I love Las Ramblas. Fab place - day and night, but it is the same as any city, especially touristy ones. Just be sensible, don't wander up side alleys on your own etc etc, and you'll be fine.

Have a lovely time - I'm very envious!

I think, much like Piccadilly, it is absolutely fine during the daytime but I would be on my guard at night! From what I recall the end nearest the sea is a little seedier than the other end. Certainly not 'full of' drug addicts and prostitutes though - full of street entertainers, which are possibly more annoying.... Like any big city, keep your belongings close, etc and there shouldn't be a problem!
