Who's been on the overnight Brittany Ferries and had a travel cot?

We are off to France by overnight ferry next month with DS who will be 23mo. The lady on the phone advised me that the travel cots they supply are suitable for infants up to 12mo, but she said it might be ok for DS if he is small for his age.

He's not particularly, but he does sleep in a normal travel cot occasionally at grandparents, so if the cots they supply are the same size as a standard travel cot, we will go with it. If they are smaller, then we'll have to sort something else out.

He's not slept anywhere other than a cot before so I would rather not go with him on a bunk for the first time on a ferry.

Anyone remember how big the cots are or have any other ideas?

TIA!

I don't know about those cots specifically, but I did once sleep on the floor on a ferry and it was very noisy with the engines vibrating - I wouldn't recommend it! Could you snuggle him in with you if the cot is too small?

Thanks Bramshott. I probably could have him in with me but we've never co slept before, ever, so I'm just concerned about how well that would work for the first time in that environment. I don't think I'd get any sleep at all as I'd probably be panicking about him falling out/me squishing him.

As far as I can remember, the cots are smaller than normal - they have to fit in the space between the bunks which is pretty narrow.

I would go with him in the bunk and put a portable bed guard on it - you can get them from Mothercare, here:

Thanks Rebecca that's really helpful. If they're any smaller than normal that will be no good.

Might investigate that bed guard as an option, thanks.

We used one for DS1 at 12 months - they are much narrower than normal ones and also a little shorter than normal ones, so I'd use a bed and pad the edges with pillows to stop him rolling out (what we ended up doing with DS1 anyway...)

I've always co-slept with DD on the ferry, with her next to the wall on the bottom bunk(still do and she's five now)
