Last year when we took ds on holiday he wasnt waslking so was relatively easy to control. this year however he runs EVERYWHERE, and loves water, so I'm a bit worried about him by the pool - can anyone suggest anything to keep him safe? He wont wear armbands

floatsuit or swim jacket

geordieminx · 25/03/2009 08:13

Any ideas which is better?

poss the floatsuit as it's harder for them to remove

Rebeccaj · 25/03/2009 15:29

Either, though the jacket is easier to remove to play.

Just remember neither will save him from drowning - if he falls in you need to jump in immediately!

geordieminx · 25/03/2009 15:34

ok, so I know they wouldnt save him from drowning, but are they any use whatsoever then?

GM I have a virtually unused swim jacket (ds wears arm bands) if you fancy.

pud1 · 25/03/2009 15:50

i have just bought a floatsuit from splash about for my dd who will be 16 month when we go away. i have noticed though that they are cheaper from speedo but they only do 2 years up

geordieminx · 25/03/2009 15:51

oOOH fab Liath that would fab - how much would you like for it? Could meet up if you fancy?

Hi Geordie

We got a swim jacket thing for ds1 but tbh it's not much use - he can't really stay upright in it, iykwim, because he doesn't know how to tread water, so not sure that they are that much use for non-swimmers. We haven't really used it much at all, so others might have better advice. Anyway, you're welcome to borrow it if you like.

Are you going somewhere nice ?

liath · 25/03/2009 17:05

I'll have to confess that the reason it's virtually unused because it tends to tip ds forwards....he's a lot more stable with arm bands. You're welcome to give it a shot though. I'm thinking of heading to the Almond Valley park soon (once ds is over his pox) if you wanted to meet.

geordieminx · 25/03/2009 17:10

I think ds will have to stop being so bloody petulant awkward and wear armbands - either that or he doesnt go swimming - quite simple really.

Do you think those suits that have the weights floats sewn into them would have the same effect? Well apart from making him look a robot?

We found the same thing re.tipping forward to be honest! It basically stuck their faces in the water ;-) We didn't use ours much either, as you still have to keep an eagle eye on them regardless.

one thing they are good for is playing with them in water deeper than they can stand, they get heavy to carry around even in water for any considerable time and they lighten the load a bit.

EldonAve · 25/03/2009 19:24

I think they are supposed to tip forward in them like you would when you swim
