DD1's carer is taking her for 4 days and I don't know how many euros to give her? I have no idea how expensive things are there.

It can be very expensive. Speak to carere and find out what her plans are re meals etc. Food is expensive. Everything is expensive actually but you need to find out what is included then post again and we can give you a better idea!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 23/03/2009 22:31

Yes, food and drinks are expensive (and not of great quality). Souvenirs are also expensive.

Although Disney say that picnics aren't permitted - I think they go as far as saying that you can't take your own food in, but I can't now find that online - we noticed that there were lots of French families sitting on the benches munching baguettes.

Let us know what you think you're going to have to pay for!

Is she staying in a hotel on the resort? Is the hotel booked with Bed and Breakfast, what meals are included and waht meals will she have to purchase?

If you are talking, snacks and bottles of drinks and things like that, the places and food halls in the resort can be more expensive (bit like theme parks in the UK, they hike the prices up slightly).

You could pack her bags with loads of snack bars, I have done that myself for dds trips.

Food and drink very expensive. Souvenirs - well you can spend as much or (almost) as little as you like..

Definitely check out carer's plans. If she is DLP-savvy she will be taking drinks and snacks to cut down on food cost. If it is a matter of souvenirs, then set a budget (30-50euro?) and go for it - we didn't spend more than 30 each for our DC last time, I am sure (DD got a Goofy, DS got Angel)

SparklyGothKat · 23/03/2009 22:47

I was thinking that £30 in our money would be enough, surely the food must be included.. I have just managed to get the correct dates off the carer and they go next thursday!!!!

The post office also do this Travel Money Card (TMC)

You can use your card anywhere that accepts VISA Electron. Cash withdrawal fees apply. Transaction fees may apply, dependent on the ATM.

You could give it to her as a back up of funds, incase of emergency.

SparklyGothKat · 23/03/2009 23:11

she is 8 lol!! I will look into the card for the carer to use if needed

She will certainly be able to get something to satisfy the urge to own disney tat quality merchandise plus a few postcards/pens for £30 - that sounds fine to me. Maybe you could drive out the answer to the food thing by offering to send drinks/biscuits/whatever?

fuddlepuck · 23/03/2009 23:17

Well pick and mix sweets are expensive anywhere, that's what 8 year olds will spend ALL their money on.

Yes I meant for the carer to use incase she needs more.

SparklyGothKat · 23/03/2009 23:18

pmsl at tat!!

Its been arranged for months, and the carer was unsure of the dates herself, I got the correct dates today!!! I have to now go and ask the school for an extra day off as I only requested the friday off, as thats what the carer said it was, then find out they leave on thursday anyway, will have to ask what they are doing about food, I know they are staying in one of the hotels..

If Dd1 gets her way she will come back completely transformed into a Disney princess

fuddlepuck · 23/03/2009 23:22

They sell the outfits and they are expensive, can you buy one off ebay and pack it before she goes?

I's sure she will have a lovely time. It will fly past for both of you.

stealthsquiggle · 23/03/2009 23:23

If (a) you think it will be her heart's desire and anything else will be a let down and (b) you can afford it, you should probably know that the tacky to die for Disney-branded princess dresses are, IIRC (we are not yet in the market for one) significantly more than £30.

SparklyGothKat · 23/03/2009 23:26

her carer will treat her, I know that... I will pack her disney dress here..

OP posts:
Simplysally · 23/03/2009 23:31

The Giselle dress was 70 euros when I went.... it would be about £25 in a Disney shop in the UK...!!

I do miss Woolworths for this sort of thing .

SparklyGothKat · 23/03/2009 23:33

oooo disneystore.. I think I need to go to watford to get her a pressie before she goes.. I am really going to miss her she goes overnight at her carers but this is 4 days.....

stealthsquiggle · 23/03/2009 23:35

I don't think that the cuddly toys are as much of a rip off mark up as that - I remember being at the price of the dresses.

Simplysally · 23/03/2009 23:44

Most of the toys were a lot more reasonable than that but that dress caught my eye as it was so expensive. I can't imagine who'd buy it at that price.

Leslaki · 24/03/2009 20:52

Yeah, I bought dd some princess dresses before we went the last time as they were so expensive there! Got them off ebay! I would recommend to carer to parcel up some bread rolls, ham, cheese etc like everyone else does and that covers lunch. Then (if not on half board option) just go to the places with an offer one. King Ludwigs was OK - one of the better places we ate in!

We're going in may and I'm trying to get the DCs to 'save' up for it - I think dd will ahve about 20p to spend!
